ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Bemidji State University’s junior goalkeeper Kari Torgerson (New Hope, Minn.) was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her contributions to the Beavers 1-0-1 record on the weekend versus NSIC opponents.
She shared this week’s defensive award with Wayne State’s Jamie Anderson, who played goalie opposite Torgerson during the 2-2 tie between Wayne State and BSU.
Torgerson stopped 19 shots on goal over the weekend. She had seven saves in the victory over SW Minnesota State Saturday and then stopped 12 shots in the 2-2 tie with Wayne State.
This award marks the second time this season that Torgerson has been named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week. Just three weeks ago she garnered the award for her efforts in a 110-minute double overtime shutout versus St. Scholastica that ended with the score 0-0.
The award was the third Player of the Week selection for BSU this season. Defender Tegan Moehn (Ramsey, Minn.) was named Defensive Player of the Week just a seven days ago for her play in BSU’s back-to-back shutouts of NSIC opponents. During those games Moehn also added a goal and an assist to round out her game on the offensive end as well.
The NSIC Offensive Player of the Week award was given to Winona State’s Annie Lauterer.
The award marks the fifth time Torgerson has been recognized for her performance by the NSIC. She was selected for the same award three times last season
The Beavers are back in action this weekend as they host the University of Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. BSU has Sunday off and then resumes play on Tuesday as they travel to take on the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D.
