Ringgenberg collects first career Player of the Week honor

Oct. 17, 2005

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Bemidji State University’s Tracy Ringgenberg (Jr.; Baldwin, N.D.) was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her performance over the weekend. The defender played a pivotal role in BSU’s defense allowing just one goal in two NSIC matchups.

The Beavers went 1-0-1 over the weekend with a 1-1 tie against rival Northern State on Saturday and then cruising past Minnesota State-Moorhead 4-0. In the game against Northern State, Ringgenberg showed her offensive prowess as well scoring BSU’s lone goal with a shot from 30 yards out for her first goal of the year.

Ringgenberg plays the defensive right side for the Beavers and has helped the team be on pace to shatter the school record goals against average. This year’s squad has a 0.99 GAA through 17 games, which is well ahead of last year’s record 1.74. The Beaver defense has been especially superb in overtime periods, not allowing a goal in six double overtime games this year.

The award was the fifth Player of the Week selection for BSU this season. Goalkeeper Kari Torgerson (Jr.; New Hope, Minn.) has been selected Defensive Player of the Week by the NSIC three times this season, including last week for her efforts in BSU’s back-to-back double overtime games.

Defender Tegan Moehn (Ramsey, Minn.) was named Defensive Player of the Week for her play in back-to-back shutouts for BSU over Minnesota State-Moorhead and Northern State on Sept. 17-18. During those games Moehn showed her versatility adding a goal and an assist.

Ringgenberg shared this week’s award with Winona State’s Christine Beatty. The NSIC Offensive Player of the Week award was given to Winona State’s Holly Sutton.

Coming this weekend, BSU will play its final home matches of the 2005 regular season. They host NSIC-leading Winona State on Saturday at 12:00 pm, and the Senior Day on Sunday will be against Concordia-St. Paul. The Beavers were beaten by Winona State earlier this season on the road, but got a victory against CSP in St. Paul.
