Awards continue to stack up for Torgerson

Oct. 24, 2005

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Bemidji State University goalkeeper Kari Torgerson (Jr.; New Hope, Minn.) was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. Torgerson was recognized for her efforts in BSU’s back-to-back shutouts of NSIC foes.

The Beavers recorded a 1-0-1 record over the weekend, which included games against league-leading Winona State and Concordia-St. Paul. Saturday, BSU hosted Winona State and battled the Warriors to a 0-0 double overtime tie. In that contest, Torgerson played a flawless match collecting 14 saves against the league’s first-ranked offense.

Sunday, at home against Concordia-St. Paul, Torgerson got just enough offensive help for the 1-0 Bemidji State victory. She turned in her fourth solo shutout of the season, stopping all eight shots she faced. Torgerson also has shared shutouts with teammate Jessica Meath in four other matches.

This year’s squad has a 0.88 GAA through 19 games, which is well ahead of last year’s record 1.74. The Beaver defense has been especially superb in overtime periods, not allowing a goal in seven double overtime games this year.

The award was the sixth Player of the Week selection for BSU this season and third week in a row. Last week, defender Tracy Ringgenberg (Jr.; Baldwin, N.D.) was recognized for her performances as the Beaver back line allowed just one goal in a win and a tie over NSIC opponents. Ringgenberg also added BSU’s only goal in the 1-1 tie versus Northern State.

Defender Tegan Moehn (Ramsey, Minn.) was named Defensive Player of the Week for her play in back-to-back shutouts for BSU over Minnesota State-Moorhead and Northern State on Sept. 17-18. During those games Moehn showed her versatility adding a goal and an assist.

The NSIC Offensive Player of the Week award was given to Northern State’s Liz Malatesta.

The Beavers will play their regular season finale this weekend at Minnesota Crookston. The game is scheduled for Oct. 29 at 1:00 pm. BSU beat the Golden Eagles earlier this season 3-0 in Bemidji.
