CROOKSTON, Minn. - The Bemidji State University soccer team concluded its 2005 regular season with a victory over the University of Minnesota-Crookston. Sophomores Jessica Ploeger (Oak Grove, Minn.) and Megan Wallner (Bemidji, Minn.) each tallied a goal to provide the offense for the Beavers.

Bemidji State started the scoring in the 29th minute. Ploeger scored the first goal to send the Beavers out to a 1-0 lead. Her fourth goal of the season was unassisted.

The BSU defense continued to shine holding the Golden Eagles to just one first half shot and took the 1-0 lead into halftme. Early in the second half the offensive attack for the Beavers got on the board again to take a 2-0 lead. This time Wallner took a throw in from Cristina Egnell (Sr.; Brooklyn Center, Minn.) and put the ball in the back of the net for her sixth goal of the year. The assist was Egnell’s first of the season.

Minnesota-Crookston got on the board to make the game 2-1 in the 75th minute, but BSU controlled the last 15 minutes to preserve the victory.

Kari Torgerson (Jr.; New Hope, Minn.) played the entire 90 minutes in net for the Beavers collecting three saves on four shots on goal. Torgerson’s season record improved to 10-2-5 overall.

The Beavers will be the number two seed when the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament starts on Tuesday, Nov. 1. BSU will host the number seven seed Minnesota State-Moorhead at 1:00 p.m.
