BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University soccer team will host a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament game for the first time in school history Tuesday, Nov. 1. The Beavers will be taking on Minnesota State University-Moorhead in the first round of the NSIC playoffs.
The Beavers will host a NSIC tournament game for the first time in school history. Last season, BSU played in the tournament for the first time knocking off the University of Minnesota-Crookston in the first round, before falling to eventual champion Winona State in the semifinals and then losing to Northern State in the third place game.
BSU, who finished in second place in the 2005 NSIC regular season with conference record of 8-1-4, will play the seventh-seeded Dragons, who ended with 2-10-1 record againts conference foes. The Beavers swept MSU-Moorhead in two head-to-head matchups this season, beating them 2-0 in Moorhead on Sept. 17 and 4-0 on Oct. 16 in Bemidji.
On its way to an overall 11-3-6 record this season, Bemidji State was lead in scoring by freshman forward Kelly Hyvare (Coon Rapids, Minn.). Hyvare notched eight goals and five assists good for 21 points. She was tied for the team goal-scoring lead with junior Katie Meinhardt (Maple Grove, Minn.).
The Beavers were lead in net by Kari Torgerson, who recorded a 10-2-5 record on the season, held opponents to a meager 0.92 goals per game. Torgerson also record six shutouts and a .912 save percentage.
The NSIC tournament first round matchup will take place at the BSU soccer complex with the kickoff scheduled for 1:00 pm.
