WINONA, Minn. - Senior defender Erin Foss (Bismarck, N.D.) and freshman forward Kelly Hyvare (Coon Rapids, Minn.) claimed Northern Sun Intercollegiate All-Tournament Team honors for their performances in the conference tournament, which Bemidji State University claimed fourth place.
Foss, who earned CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-Conference honors last week, earned a spot on the All-Tournament for the first time in her four-year career. Over her four years, Foss has played in all 83 BSU games, tying her with current teammate Cristina Egnell for the school record. She has posted one goal this season, coming on a penalty kick against the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D.
The BSU defense, with the help of Foss, allowed just 0.89 goals per game, shattering last season’s school record of 1.74.
Hyvare, a forward, scored BSU’s first goal in the NSIC Third Place game against Wayne State and collected an assist in the tournament opener in Bemidji against MSU-Moorhead. She led Bemidji State in scoring this season totaling 24 points on nine goals and six assists. Hyvare tied teammate Katie Meinhardt for the goal scoring lead and led the Beavers in assists. During the year, played in all 23 games , starting 17 of them.
Foss and Hyvare helped a BSU team the set a school record for wins in a season (12) and fewest losses in a season (4). The team finished fourth in the NSIC Tournament. After beating MSU-Moorhead 1-0 in the first round, the Beavers dropped heartbreakers against Northern State 1-0 in the semifinal and Wayne State, 3-2 in a shootout.
