MISSION, Kan. - The Bemidji State University soccer team, coming of the best season in program history with 12 wins, placed a school record three players on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Central All-Region Teams. Goalkeeper Kari Torgerson (Jr.; New Hope, Minn.) and defender Tegan Moehn (Jr.; Ramsey, Minn.) earned All-Region First Team honors, while Katie Meinhardt (Jr.; Maple Grove, Minn.) gained Third Team honors.
Torgerson, who was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Year and NSIC All-Conference First Team, played the central role in a defense that allowing a microscopic 0.87 goals per game. She posted an 11-2-5 (9-1-4 NSIC) record on the season, while tying her own single season school record of seven shutouts. Torgerson was named to the NSCAA All-Region Third Team last season, and has also gained NSIC All-Conference honors in each of her three seasons at BSU.
Moehn, who plays the center back position on the defense, also joined Torgerson on the NSIC All-Conference First Team. This season, she has started all 21 games for a defense that has allowed just 0.85 goals per game. On the offensive end, Moehn has also contributed, providing two goals and three assists good for seven points.
Torgerson and Moehn are the first players in the ten-year history of the BSU soccer program to earn All-Region First Team honors.
Meinhardt, who earned All-Region Third Team honors, was named to the NSIC All-Conference Second team for Bemidji State. She lead BSU in goal scoring with nine this season, while also posting an assist to total 19 points. After missing the first six games of 2005 with an injury, she scored her nine goals in just 15 games played. Meinhardt has also been named to the NSIC All-Conference Teams in each of her three seasons in the Green and White.
After setting a school record in wins for the fourth straight season, Torgerson, Moehn, and Meinhardt will return for their senior seasons looking to improve on the 12-win season. The team finished fourth in the NSIC Tournament during 2005. After beating MSU-Moorhead 1-0 in the first round, the Beavers dropped heartbreakers against Northern State 1-0 in the semifinal and Wayne State, 3-2 in a shootout.
