Torgerson named program's first ever NSCAA/adidas All-American

MISSION, Kan. - Bemidji State junior goalkeeper Kari Torgerson (New Hope, Minn.) has been named the first All-American in the ten-year history of the BSU women’s soccer program, as she was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas All-America Second Team.

The NSCAA/adidas All-America consists of three 11 player teams, with one student athlete representing each position. Of the 33 players named Torgerson is one of three goalies.

Torgerson, who was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Year along with being NSIC All-Conference First Team was also named to the NSCAA Central All-Region First Team. This season she played the central role in BSU’s defense allowing a microscopic 0.91 goals per game along with a .909 save percentage.

She posted an 11-3-6 (9-1-4 NSIC) record on the season, while tying her own single season school record of seven shutouts. Torgerson was named to the NSCAA All-Region Third Team last season, and has also gained NSIC All-Conference honors in each of her three seasons at BSU.

Over her career, Torgerson has achieved BSU career records in shutouts (18), games started in net (56) and has moved in to 14th place on the all-time NCAA career. saves list with 537.

After helping BSU set a school record in wins for the fourth straight season, Torgerson will return for her senior season looking to improve on the 12-win season. The team finished fourth in the NSIC Tournament during 2005. After beating MSU-Moorhead 1-0 in the first round, the Beavers dropped heartbreakers against Northern State 1-0 in the semifinal and Wayne State, 3-2 in a shootout for third place.

The honorees wll be invited to the NSCAA All-America Luncheon, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, as part of the 2006 NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia, Pa.
