BEMIDJI, Minn. - Bemidji State University
head soccer coach, Jim Stone, announced today
the Beavers' 2005 schedule. The upcoming campaign includes
21 games with BSU set to host eight on their home field. The
slate is highlighted by a first-time home-and-home series
with each of BSU’s Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference
counterparts.
The Beavers are set to break the seal on the season earlier
than any other campaign on record as the Beavers travel to
Mayville, N.D. to challenge Mayville State University, Aug.
25th. Just three days later, BSU opens its home schedule with
perennial North Central Conference power University of North
Dakota at 1:00 p.m.in the team's only non-conference tilt
at home.
The College of St. Scholastica's Advantage Emblem Cup is
next on the Beavers agenda. BSU will travel to Duluth, Minn.
to defend its 2004 title in the event first matching up with
the host, St. Scholastica and them then battling Northland
College in the round-robin format.
“We have a solid non-conference season set up, Said
head coach Jim Stone. "We begin with a very good team
in North Dakota then go to St. Scholastica and play a team
that won 20 games last season at the Division III level."
He added, "We also play Mary later in the season, which
is making its debut at the D-II level but have been one of
the best teams in the NAIA ranks for some time."
“Playing quality teams like these will really get us
ready for league play,” added Stone.
When the Beavers travel to St. Paul, Minn. to open the conference
season at Concordia University-St. Paul Sept. 10, they will
not only be embarking on a four-game road swing versus NSIC
competition, the teams will also be breaking ground playing
the first of a home-and-home season series with the Golden
Bears. The 2005 five season marks the first season in which
each NSIC team will go through the NSIC schedule twice, playing
each team at home and on the road.
“I was one on the proponents of the NSIC double-round
season,” commented Stone. “I think it will give
a more accurate showing of where everyone stands in the conference."
From there BSU will return to the BSU Soccer Field for a three-game
homestand hosting Southwest Minnesota State University Sept.
25th at 1:00 p.m. and Wayne State College at 10:30 a.m. one
day later.
The Beavers cap a condensed non-conference schedule heading
west for its final two non-conference tilts of the season.
On Oct. 4th the team will be in Bismarck, N.D. to take on
the University of Mary and will change sites to battle Jamestown
College in Jamestown, N.D. 24-hours later.
After a trip to Southwest Minnesota State and Wayne State,
BSU will return home to close out its home schedule with a
four-game homestand in which it will host Northern State (Oct.
15) and Minnesota State University-Moorhead (Oct. 16) for
Parents’ Weekend and Winona State (Oct. 22) with Senior
Day set for Oct. 23rd versus Concordia-St. Paul.
For the second consecutive season the Beavers conclude their
regular season on the road at Minnesota-Crookston (Oct. 29).
One year removed from the program’s inaugural trip to
the NSIC Tournament’s semi-final round, the Beavers
again have their eyes set on Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Soccer
Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota as that
facility will be home to the 2005 conference tournament, Nov.
5-6.
