DULUTH, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University soccer team played nearly perfect in their second game of the season against the University of Wisconsin-Stout at the Advanatage Emblem Cup in Duluth, Minn. The Beavers rode a hat trick from sophomore forward Kelly Hyvare (Coon Rapids, Minn.) to a 4-0 victory.
Freshman Jamie Ford (Edina, Minn.) collected BSU’s other goal, notching the first net-finder of her career. Ford’s rookie mate Danielle Egeberg dished out three assists for the offense that scored just one goal last week at North Dakota.
The BSU defense came together in the second game of the season as well. Backline mates Jessica Ploeger (Oak Grove, Minn.), Tegan Moehn (Ramsey, Minn.), Tracy Ringgenberg (Baldwin, N.D.), and Tamara Price joined forces with Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, Kari Torgerson, to shut down the UW-Stout offense completely.
Price, a junior, is experiencing just the second game of her collegiate soccer career. After playing her first two years of college with the BSU women’s hockey team, Price joined the soccer team last semester during spring drills.
“Tamara Price played outstanding today,” head coach Jim Stone said. “Her and the other backliners just played extremely well.”
In net, Torgerson played flawlessly collecting her first blanking of the season. The shutout is the 19th of Torgerson’s decorated career, which included seven in each of the last two seasons.
The Beavers will be back in action tomorrow against non-conference opponent Dakota Wesleyan. This game is not part of the Advantage Emblem Cup, but will be played in Duluth at 1 p.m. BSU will resume action in the Cup on Sunday against Northland College at 3 p.m.
