DULUTH, Minn. -- Bemidji State clinched the Advantage Emblem Cup on the campus of St. Scholastica with a convincing 7-1 victory over Northland College. BSU was led by two goals from freshman Jamie Ford (Edina, Minn.).
Bemidji State wasted no time, jumping on the board in the 11th minute with a goal from freshman Jamie Ford (Edina, Minn.). The goal was Ford’s second of the season. She picked up her third early in the second half on set-up passes from Christina Hicks (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.) and Megan Wallner (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.).
Her rookie counterpart, Egeberg, seemed to be keeping the Northland goalkeeper off balance all day with a barrage of shots. Egeberg unleashed seven shots in the contest with four on goal. She found the back of the net once, in the 38th minute
Bemidji State had nine different players register at least one point in the lopsided victory.
After missing all of her freshman season, Jennifer Clifford (Ham Lake, Minn.) scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 75th minute to cap off the scoring column for BSU.
Kari Torgerson (New Hope, Minn.) played all 90 minutes in net, but only face two shots on goal. One of those shots found its way in the back of the net in the 79th minute for Northlands only goal of the game. The goal also halted a two-game shutout streak by Beaver goalkeepers.
With the win, BSU’s record moves to 3-1-0 and starts a three-game win streak after dropping the season opener at North Dakota.
The Beavers will round out their six-game season-opening road trip with two games in Marquette, Mich., on Sept. 9-10. BSU will take on Saginaw Valley in the first game and Northern Michigan a day later. Bemidji State is 0-3 all-time against Northern Michigan and 0-1 against Saginaw Valley. But, they have not faced either team since 2003.
