BEMIDJI, Minn. - With just over two minutes remaining in regulation, Bemidji State had survived the second half pressure from Mary (N.D.) and seemed destined for victory. But, the Marauders notched a game-tying goal only to set the stage for Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference leading scorer Kelly Hyvare (So., F, Coon Rapids, Minn.).

And eight minutes into overtime Hyvare got her chance. The sophomore collected a pass from freshman Jamie Ford (Edina, Minn.) and used a crossover, stop-and-go move to get past the defender before ripping a shot past Mary goalkeeper Brannigan Coyle for the 2-1 win.

Hyvare now has 11 goals in 14 games this season, and today helped the Beavers improve their record to 8-5-1 overall and 4-2-0 in the league.

“Kelly has been playing at a high level all season,” BSU head coach Jim Stone said. “She does some great things with the ball on her feet and she is fun to watch.”

BSU had taken the lead in the 22nd minute on a header by 5-foot-10 Tegan Moehn (Sr., D, Ramsey, Minn.). Moehn’s goaled mirrored her defensive teammate, Jessica Ploeger’s goal, from yesterday. Danielle Egeberg (Fr., M, New Hope, Minn.) lofted a high corner kick to the far post and Moehn used every inch of her frame to attack the ball above the defense and find the net. The goal was her first of the season and Egeberg’s team-leading sixth assist.

Against the Marauders’ high-pressure offense, the BSU defense was stout nearly the entire game until Mary’s Danielle Mello corralled a rebound from a Jessica Janusz shot and beat goalie Kari Torgerson in the 88th minute.

“Our back four played great all weekend, and freshman Maddie Pletta stepped in today on defense and played great,” said Stone of his defenders. “And Kari is playing like the All-American that she is. She continues to play well and make great saves.”

Torgerson made four saves on the day and improved her record on the season to 7-4-1.

The Beavers have just three game remaining before the NSIC tournament. Next weekend, they hit the road to play at Upper Iowa on Saturday, Oct. 14, and then to NSIC-leading Winona State on Sunday. Both games are scheduled for 1 p.m.
