BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University soccer team will begin its Spring slate of 24 practices and three days of competition this Friday, announced head coach Jim Stone. Stone’s squad will play in a Spring tournament at North Dakota State University and take on two Metro-area U-17 club teams in their scrimmage games.
BSU’s 24-practice schedule, begins March 30 and runs through May 2. This span also includes a scrimmages against the Coon Rapids U-17 Premier on April 14, at the NDSU Spring Invitational on April 21, and the St. Paul U-17 Blackhawks on April 28. The Coon Rapids Premier is the former club team of Bemidji State University forward Kelly Hyvare (So., Coon Rapids, Minn.), while BSU’s Jessica Ploeger (Jr., M/D, Ramsey, Minn.) played club soccer for the St. Paul Blackhawks.
After completing a 10-6-2 season and signing eight players to National Letters of Intent in the offseason, Stone’s squad is building for next Fall after losing six seniors to graduation, including former All-American goalkeeper Kari Torgerson and All-Region defender Tegan Moehn.
The 2007 Beavers will be led by seven returning seniors and the NSIC’s leading scorer in 2006, Hyvare, who led the league with 28 points (12g, 4a). Hyvare’s five game-winning goals in 2006 also set a new BSU record and gave her a career total of nine, which marks the top spot in BSU history.
BSU’s practices will run from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. each day, but there will be no practice for the team on April 6-7.
