Senior goalkeeper Kari Torgerson (New Hope,
Minn.) and sophomore forward Kelly Hyvare (Coon Rapids, Minn.)
were recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of
America for All-Central Region honors. Torgerson earned second-team
accollades and Hyvare was honored on the third team.

The Bemidji State University soccer team
ended the season ranked 10th in the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSCAA) Central Region poll. BSU is ranked
in the poll for the second straight season after cracking the
top 10 for the first time last year.

Four Bemidji State soccer players have been
named to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference 2006 All-Conference
Team, announced by the league office Wednesday. This is the
third time in four years that BSU has had four players garner
all-conference awards, and the first time it has had three players
selected to the first team.

For the second straight season, the Bemidji
State University soccer ended their season in heartbreaking
fashion to Wayne State College. It was a mirror image of last
season’s Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament
third place game, in which BSU battled a 0-0 tie through two
overtimes to come up just short, 4-3, in a shootout.

The Bemidji State University soccer team
locked up a third-place finish in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference regular season race with a 2-0 shutout over the University
of Minnesota-Crookston. On a cold, blustery day Christina Hicks
(Jr., M, Minnetonka, Minn.) and Jennifer Clifford (Fr., M, Ham
Lake, Minn.) each found the net to defeat the Eagles in BSU’s
regular season finale.

Bemidji State University’s five-game
unbeaten streak, which included three wins in a row over Northern
Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponents, came to a halt Sunday
afternoon in Winona, Minn. Winona State University broke a 1-1
tie early in the second half and added a late goal to down the
Beavers 3-1.

Bemidji State scored three different ways
getting goals via penalty kick, corner kick, and through the
regular offense along with a perfect performance from All-American
Kari Torgerson (Sr., GK, New Hope, Minn.) in net to blank Upper
Iowa University 3-0 in the teams’ inaugural Northern Sun
Intercollegiate Conference matchup.

After scoring the game-tying goal in a 3-1
victory over Northern State, sophomore Kelly Hyvare (So., Coon
Rapids, Minn.) followed up with an even bigger performance,
scoring the game-winner with two mintues left in overtime the
next day to beat the University of Mary, 2-1. Her weekend accomplishments
didn’t go unnoticed as she was named the Northern Sun
Intercollegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week today
by league officials.

With just over two minutes remaining in
regulation, Bemidji State had survived the second half pressure
from Mary (N.D.) and seemed destined for victory. But, the
Marauders notched a game-tying goal only to set the stage
for Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference leading scorer
Kelly Hyvare (So., F, Coon Rapids, Minn.).
And eight minutes into overtime Hyvare got her chance. The
sophomore collected a pass from freshman Jamie Ford (Edina,
Minn.) and used a crossover, stop-and-go move to get past
the defender before ripping a shot past Mary goalkeeper Brannigan
Coyle for the 2-1 win.

After giving up the game’s first goal,
Bemidji State University notched three unanswered scores, including
two in the second half to take a 3-1 victory over Northern Sun
Intercollegiate Conference rival Northern State at the BSU Soccer
Field. Jessica Ploeger (Jr., D, Oak Grove, Minn.) scored the
game-winner on a header from a Danielle Egeberg (Fr., M, New
Hope, Minn.) corner kick.

corner kick from fellow freshman Danielle Egeberg (M, New Hope,
Minn.) to give Bemidji State University a 1-0 non-conference

the Bemidji State University soccer team's Parents' Weekend,
originally scheduled for Aug. 27, has been rescheduled for the
Beavers final home game against Minnesota Crookston on Saturday,
Oct. 21. |
The Bemidi State University soccer team continued
its weekend road swing as the Beavers traveled to Concordia-St.
Paul for a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchup with
the Golden Bears. The Beavers almost doubled Concordia-St. Paul
in total shots but was only able to muster one goal as Golden
Bear goaltender Hannah Turgerson was able to keep the Beavers
in check.

of the day in a 3-1 loss to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference
foe Wayne State. The Wildcats posted two first half goals, and

the net early and often in a 6-1 win over Southwest Minnesota
State. The Beavers were led by leading scorer Kelly Hyvare

State soccer standout Becky Elk for the career goal-scoring
record. Meinhardt wasted no time in the first game of the season
against North Dakota putting her name at the top with her first

Advantage Emblem Cup Tournament title, the Beavers were rewarded
with three players on the all-tournament team. Forwards Kelly
Hyvare (So., Coon Rapids, Minn.) and Jamie
Ford (Fr., Edina, Minn.) and defender Tamara
Price (Jr., Cloquet, Minn.) were all selected for
post-tournament honors.

Cup on the campus of St. Scholastica with a convincing 7-1 victory
over Northland College. BSU was led by two goals from freshman
Jamie Ford (Edina, Minn.).

After consecutive trips to the NSIC Quarterfinals
and two straight seasons with 11 or more wins, the BSU soccer
team has proven itself as a legitimate force to be reckoned
and coaches within the league have taken notice. In the NSIC’s
yearly Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the Beavers have been
picked to finished third, the conference office announced today.
BSU senior goalkeeper, Kari Torgerson (New
Hope, Minn.) made her third consecutive appearance as the NSIC
Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in the same poll.

Minn.) to a National Letter of
Intent. Ford will begin her collegiate eligibility at BSU in
August.

The upcoming season includes 19 games, nine of which will be
in the friendly confines of the BSU Soccer Field. The slate
is highlighted by the addition of two new Northern Sun Intercollegiate

is among the top 15 in NCAA Division II women’s soccer
most improved teams. After going 11-12 in 2004, the Beavers
set a school record in wins (12) and least losses (4) to compile
a 2005 record of 12-4-7. The record places them as the 12th
most improved team in the nation.
