Ross snags Defensive Player of the Week award

Oct. 26, 2009

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has named junior goalkeeper Samantha Ross (Stillwater, Minn.) as the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Oct. 18-25.

Ross faced 24 shots including nine saves in Friday’s match against No. 25 Minnesota Duluth. She came up huge for the Beavers in the overtime periods making four saves in the 20-minute time span to help BSU hold onto the tie. She now has a .864 save percentage on the season while allowing less than one goal per game (0.94 GAA).

Ross is the second player this year to be named a NSIC player of the week after freshman midfielder Tiffany VanHaaften (Chaska, Minn.) won the same honor on Sept. 28.

The award is Ross’ second of her career, her first being back on Sept. 3, 2008.
