April 5, 2005

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Literally hours after Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference unveiled a plan that will expand the league to 10 teams for the 2006-07 season, adding the University of Mary and Upper Iowa University, Bemidji State University head softball coach Paul Brunsdon announced that the Beavers have added a pair of games at Mary April 29th. The double-header is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.

The contests mark the first meeting between the teams since it was announced that the Marauders would join the league and just the the second and third time the pair has ever met on the diamond.

In the only other meeting between the teams, during the 1995 season, the Beavers came away with a 7-4 victory.

UM is 10-10 overall this season hailing from the Dakota Athletic Conference-10 (DAC-10) and playing a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) schedule. Last season the Marauders captured the DAC-10 crown and Region III Runner-up trophy while posted a 39-14 record and gaining a No. 12 ranking in the season's final poll.

BSU is 0-12 this season and opens its conference slate today when it hosts Minnesota State University-Moorhead in a 3:00 p.m. double-header.
