BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Literally hours after Northern
Sun Intercollegiate Conference unveiled a plan that will expand
the league to 10 teams for the 2006-07 season, adding the
University of Mary and Upper Iowa University, Bemidji State
University head softball coach Paul Brunsdon announced that
the Beavers have added a pair of games at Mary April 29th.
The double-header is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
The contests mark the first meeting between the teams since
it was announced that the Marauders would join the league
and just the the second and third time the pair has ever met
on the diamond.
In the only other meeting between the teams, during the 1995
season, the Beavers came away with a 7-4 victory.
UM is 10-10 overall this season hailing from the Dakota Athletic
Conference-10 (DAC-10) and playing a National Association
of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) schedule. Last season
the Marauders captured the DAC-10 crown and Region III Runner-up
trophy while posted a 39-14 record and gaining a No. 12 ranking
in the season's final poll.
BSU is 0-12 this season and opens its conference slate today
when it hosts Minnesota State University-Moorhead in a 3:00
p.m. double-header.
