Bemidji State Returns for Home-Opener After 12-Game Road Trip

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University softball team plays its home-opener Tuesday, April 4 as they host Minnesota State University-Moorhead. The Beavers will be looking for their first win of the season, after dropping all 12 games of a southern swing that included games versus nationally-ranked opponents.

BSU (0-12) and Minnesota State (7-8) will each being opening their NSIC season.

New head coach Paul Brunsdon has taken over for the departed Amanda Went. Went coached the 2004 Beavers to a 2-29 record while going 1-15 in NSIC contests.

Brunsdon’s club is led in hitting by senior Katie Gardas (Arden Hills, Minn.), junior Mandy Bambrough (Toronto, Ont.), and freshman Jamie Docken (Owatonna, Minn.). Gardas leads the team with nine hits including a double and a run scored. Bambrough’s bat has been equally impressive as she has collected seven hits included three doubles and a home run, while leading the team with five runs scored. Docken has also posted seven hits, three of which have been doubles, while posting three runs scored.

On the mound for the Beavers Alaina Ryberg (Hudson, Wis.) and Andrea Schue (Roosevelt, Minn.) have split time. Ryberg has collected a team-best 15 strikeouts, while Schue has struck out five opponents.

Tuesday’s doubleheader will be played at the BSU softball field on the campus of Bemidji State University with the first game starting at 3:00 p.m.
