Third Season at BSU
A new era in the Bemidji State University tennis program
began on Feb. 26, 2003, when director of athletics Dr. Rick
Goeb named Kari Wood as the university’s new head tennis
coach.
After compliling a 3-13 overall record and 2-4 mark in Northern
Sun Intercollegiate Conferenence play in her first season,
Wood believes her squad's expetations will be higher in her
second full season at the helm.
"We should be right up there with the top two contenders
in the conference because we have the talent and conditioning
to compete with the best teams in the NSIC this year,"
remarked Wood. "This team is a very close-knit group
and these girls will do well. It will just come down to how
bad they want it."
Wood, a Bemidji, Minn. native has been an assistant professor
in the BSU Business Department since 2000. She currently teaches
business administration and computer information systems classes.
A graduate of Bemidji State with a bachelor’s degree
in business management, Wood received her master’s degree
in business administration from Minnesota State University-Moorhead
and recently earned her doctorate in organizational management
(IT) at Capella University (Minn.).
While working on her undergraduate degree, Wood played on
the BSU tennis team. She was a co-captain her senior year
on a team where she played both second and third doubles and
singles. The team went finished third in the Northern Sun
Intercollegiate Conference.
While at BSU, Howe led the Beavers to the only conference
tennis championship in the school’s history. She was
also named as the 1999 NSIC Coach of the Year.
Wood resides in Bemidji with her husband Gary.
