Mustangs top Beavers in conference play
Kapsner impressive in loss

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University tennis team was defeated in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play at the hands of the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs on Friday in Gold’s Gym in St. Cloud, Minn. by a score of 1-8.

The Mustangs started out strong, sweeping the doubles points to get out to an early 3-0 lead.

Singles play saw sophmore Julie Kapsner (Pierz, Minn.) pick up the lone Beaver point defeating the Mustangs Samantha Stenzel in a hard fought match. Kapsner started out winning the first set 6-4. The second set went Stenzels way as she picked up the set 6-1. Kapsner was able to prevail on the tiebreaker however, edging out Stenzel 10-8. The win for Kapsner was her second singles victory of the week improving her total to three on the season.

The loss drops the Beavers’ record to 1-10 (0-3; NSIC) on the season. Bemidji State returns to action when it plays host to the University of Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagles in conference play on Tuesday April 10th at 1:00 p.m. at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center in Bemidji, Minn.
