Bemidji State drops conference match to Upper Iowa
Beavers lose second of three consecutive matches

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University tennis team was unable to pick up its second victory in as many days as they were defeated by the Upper Iowa University Peacocks 9-0 in Waterloo, Iowa on Wednesday afternoon.

The Peacocks jumped out of the gate quickly picking up an early 3-0 lead in doubles action.

Singles play saw the Beavers’ Julie Kapsner (Pierz, Minn.) take her opponent Erin Kelley to the edge as she picked up the first set 7-6 by winning the tiebreaker 7-5. Kapsner then fought hard in the second set but saw Kelley come away with it 7-5. In the super tiebreaker the two battled it out with Kelley narrowly defeating Kapsner 10-8 to gain the point at the No. 4 position.

The Peacocks picked up victories at the remaining five singles positions to complete the sweep.

The loss moves the Beavers to 2-11 (1-4; NSIC) on the season. They will conclude their play for the week when they meet up with the Winona State University Warriors on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. in Winona, Minn.
