Beavers prepare for 2007 NSIC Championships in Minneapolis
BSU looks to finish season with strong performance at conference tournament

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University tennis team will wrap up its 2007 campaign as it will travel to the Baseline Center on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis, Minn. to compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships this Saturday and Sunday.

The Beavers will look to improve upon their third place finish from the 2006 Championships. The team returns one player from last year’s squad that gained honorable mention for her play in last year’s tournament in Kali Welu (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) who took second at the No. 2 singles position. Welu is the Beavers probable No. 1 singles player for this years tournament.

Julie Kapsner (Pierz, Minn.) looks to continue her improved play at the No. 4 singles position going into the tournament. Kaspner has picked up three of her four singles victories on the season in the past six matches.

Last year’s crown went to Winona State which has won the last two tournaments and five of the last six.

Singles action will begin at 3:00 p.m. Saturday while the doubles action will take place Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
