Bemidji State amid stiff competition at NSIC Championships
Beavers conclude season with doubles action Sunday

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University tennis team saw great effort from its singles players but all were unable to get out of the first round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships Saturday at the Baseline Center in Minneapolis, Minn.

Sophmores Kali Welu (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) and Julie Kapsner (Pierz, Minn.) pushed both of their opponents to third sets at the No. 1 and No. 4 singles positions respectively.

Welu faced off against Minnesota State, Moorheads Ashley Taborsky at the No. 1 singles position going down the first set 6-3. Welu came back to take the second set easily with a 6-0 victory. Taborsky prevailed in the third set taking it 6-3 for the victory.

Kapsner was able to take the eventual champion Maggie Lindquist from Winona State University to a third set but saw the match go Lindquists way as she prevailed 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 6-4.

The Beavers will wrap up play with doubles competition Sunday with action slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Baseline Center.
