BEMIDJI, Minn.- Bemidji State University women’s tennis team will resume the 2007 season this weekend after nearly a month, as they play host to both the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux and Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center on Saturday and Sunday March 3rd and 4th.
The Beavers are 0-1 (0-0; NSIC) on the season as the lost to the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs 1-8 on the 4th of Februrary in Bemidji, Minn. The match was the first of two scheduled between the teams this year. The lone victory for the Beavers came at the No. 4 seed where Julie Kapsner (Pierz, Minn.) defeated Andrea Mock of Duluth 6-0, 6-2.
In singles competition the young team will look for a strong performance from its lone upperclassman, junior Kristen Lexcen (Andover, Minn.) as well as sophmores Kapsner, Amy Erickson (Roseau, Minn.), and Kali Welu (Pequot Lakes, Minn.). While in doubles the team of Welu and freshman Shelia Hoberg (Bismarck, N.D.) played competitively at the No. 1 doubles spot losing 4-8 versus UMD.
Bemidji State will start the weekend facing off against the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux on Saturday March 3rd at 4:00 p.m. The Sioux currently hold a (7-1) record on the season.
The Dragons of MSU Moorhead head into the weekend with a record of 2-2 (1-0; NSIC) and will face both Minnesota State on the 2nd and Minnesota Duluth on the 3rd, before meeting with the Beavers for a 10:00 a.m. showdown on Sunday at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center.
