BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University women’s tennis team will begin its 2008 season this Saturday as they play host to the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center with the match set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
The Beaver’s will have a lot of experience on this years squad as all members of last years team will return. Bemidji State’s roster consists of one senior, three juniors, four sophomores, and three freshman. Kristen Lexcen (Andover, Minn.) leads the group as the only senior. Juniors Amy Erickson (Roseau, Minn.), Julie Kapsner (Pierz, Minn.) and Kali Welu (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) will be vital to the success of the team. Sophomores Shelia Hoberg (Bismarck, N.D.), Tressa Jares (Motley, Minn.), Cheyane Maki (Watford City, N.D.), and Erin Mapes (Monticello, Minn.) will be asked to build on of their freshman seasons. Bemidji State will also be looking for contributions from freshmen Farrah Steinke (Crosby, Minn.), Kara Johnson (Anoka, Minn.), and Danielle Coffey (Circle Pines, Minn.).
The Beavers are looking to improve off of a 2007 season which saw them go 2-13 on the season and 1-5 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate play. Bemidji State finished the 2007 NSIC conference tournament in a tie for fifth place.
Bemidji State has 22 matches scheduled for this season with eight of the contests at home.
