Nov. 7, 2009 - Beavers finish 20th at NCAA Central Regional

The Bemidji State University women’s cross country team finished 20th at the NCAA Division II Central Regional with 609 points. Adams State won the event with 36 points. Junior Kristi Buerkle (Bemidji, Minn.) was BSU's top finisher at 105th with a time of 25:24.9. The event was hosted by Wayne State College at the Wayne Country Club in Wayne, Neb.

Oct. 24, 2009 - Beavers finish 10th at NSIC Championships

The Bemidji State University women’s cross country team finished 10th at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference cross country championships with 328 points and a average time of 26:28.0. Augustana College (S.D.) won the event, posting an average time of 22:58.0 and 38 points. The University of Minnesota Duluth’s sophomore Megan Place won the event for the second time in row with a time of 21:48.0.The event was hosted by BSU at the Greenwood Golf Course in Bemidji, Minn.

Oct. 21, 2009 - BSU cross country to host NSIC Championships

The BSU cross country team will host the men's and women's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference cross country championships, Saturday Oct. 24 at the Greenwood Golf Course in Bemidji, Minn. The women's 6000 meter race begins at 11 a.m. and the men's 8000 meter race begins at 12 p.m.

Oct. 14, 2009 - Women's cross country featured on Sports in the Round

The weekly radio show, “Sports in the Round”, which is held on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. at The Ground Round, will feature the Bemidji State Universty women’s cross country team. BSU women’s cross country/men’s and women’s track coach Craig Hougen will be on the program to discuss the upcoming Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men’s and women’s cross country championships hosted by BSU.

Oct. 11, 2009 - Beavers finish fourth at UMD Pine Hill Invitational

Two inches of snow and a 27 degree day didn’t stop the Bemidji State University women’s cross country team from competing at the UMD Pine Hill Invitational, Oct. 10. The team finished fourth with 129 points out of five teams that ran. The top performer for the Beavers was junior Kristi Buerkle (Stacy, Minn.), who finished 35th overall and 23rd in runners competing for a team score with a time of 25:40.

Oct. 3, 2009 - Beavers finish sixth at Jimmie Invitational

The Bemidji State University women’s cross country team finished sixth at the Jimmie Invitational, Friday, Oct. 2, hosted by Jamestown College at the Hillcrest Golf Course. The Beavers finished with 143 points and a time of 1:48:44 (21:44.80 average). BSU was led by sophomore Alison Hougen (Bemidji, Minn.), who finished 29th with a time of 21:23 and junior Kristi Buerkle (Stacy, Minn.) was 30th with a time of 21:28.

Sept. 11, 2009 - Beavers finish fourth at Greenwood Run

The Bemidji State University women’s cross country team finished fourth at the 5k Greenwood Run, hosted by the BSU at the Greenwood Golfcourse in Bemidji, Minn. University of Mary finished first with 30 points, Jamestown College was second with 46 points, Minnesota State University Moorhead was third with 57 points and BSU rounded out the run with 106 points. Anna VanWechel of Minnesota State Moorhead finished first with 18:31.28. The Beavers' top finisher was junior Shelly Saksa (Dassel, Minn.), who finished 17th with a time of 21:03:83.BSU’s Kristi Buerkle (Jr., Stacy, Minn.) finished 20th with a time of 21:20.53.

A year ago he suffered an injury and was forced to withdraw from the outdoor championships. Qualifying for the indoor championships a few months ago, he no heighted in the pole vault and slid out of contention. But the third time is a charm for Bemidji State’s Zac Preble (Coleraine, Minn.). Friday the junior became the first BSU athlete to eclipse the 7,000-point mark in the decathlon taking fourth place at the 2009 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in San Angelo, Tex.

May 22. 2008 - Preble's NCAA championship quest comes to an early end

Bemidji State University decathlete Zac Preble (Coleraine, Minn.), has been forced to pull out of the 2008 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Pamona, Calif. after three events. The sophomore suffered a hamstring injury during the first event of the day and after sticking it out through two more events, has, along with BSU head track and field coach Craig Hougen, decided to withdraw from competition to prevent further injury.

May 3, 2008 - Buerkle breaks nine-year-old 200-meter record

If records truly are made to be broken, then Bemidji State sprinter Kristi Buerkle (Forest Lake, Minn.) is just following the rules. Buerkle broke BSU's outdoor 200-meter dash record Saturday en route to a second-place finish at the Ron Masanz Invitational in Moorhead, Minn. The 25.27-second race clocked by the newcomer bettered the previous school-best of 25.36 set by Amber Bohman in the spring of 1999.

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference today announced its list of 2008 Honor Student-Athlete and Scholarship award winners. Bemidji State University's Zac Preble (So., Coleraine, Minn.) won his second consecutive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference decathlon championship this week, out scoring the rest of the 10-man field by nearly 1,000 points. Apr. 27, 2008 - NSIC multi-event start pushed back one day

The start of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference heptathlon and decathlon championships has been delayed a day due to poor weather conditions in Aberdeen, S.D. Originally scheduled for Sunday and Monday, the multi-event competition will officially get underway at 2 p.m. Monday with a 10 a.m. start set for Tuesday.

The Drake Alternative Track and Field Meet scheduled for today at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. has been cancelled due to poor weather conditions. The event will not be rescheduled.

Senior, All-American thrower Joe Remitz (North Branch, Minn.) and the Bemidji State University women' 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams opened a busy weekend in Beaver Track and Field Friday at the 99th annual Drake Relays Friday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
