Hays, Kansas - At the NCAA Regional Cross Country Championships,
senior Martha Miltich (Cohasset, Minn.) paced
the Beavers to a 22nd-place finish as she took 65th overall
with a time of 24:15.90. Placing second on the team and 82nd
overall was freshman Christa Pribula (E.
Grand Forks, Minn.) with a final time of 24:47.59.
Senior Josie Muzquiz (Detroit Lakes, Minn.)
placed 132nd with a time of 26:18.64. Junior Jamie
Peterson placed 137th (26:30.91). Finishing fifth
on the team and 140th overall was sophomore Janell
Rook (Alexandria, Minn.) who ran a 26:53.83. Sophomore
Janel Budenski placed 146th as she ran a
27:22.81. To place 148th, senior Sarah Roley
ran a 27:39.00.
Adams State Zila Gomez took the individual crown with a time
of 20:38.68.
This was the season ending event for the Bemidji State Beavers.

BSU Head Coach Craig Hougen
Completing his 14th-year as head coach of the cross country/track
and field squads at Bemidji State University is Craig
Hougen.
A track state champion and notable track athlete at Bismarck
High School (N.D.), Hougen earned a bachelor’s degree
in physical education from Valley City State University (N.D.)
in 1977. He followed with a master’s degree in that
same field from BSU in 1979 while serving as a graduate assistant
for two years.
Hougen entered the coaching ranks as the head track and field
coach at Sheridan High School in Wyoming in 1979 and accepted
additional duties as assistant coach with the football and
basketball programs during his 10-year stay with Sheridan
H.S. athletics.
Craig, wife Ann, son Michael (18) and daughters Rebecca (15)
and Alison (12) reside in Bemidji.
