BEMIDJI, Minn. - [results]
-The Bemidji State track and field team grabbed four first-place
finishes as they traveled to Moorhead, Minn., to participate
in the Ron Masanz Invitational on Saturday. All of the top
finishes came from the men’s squad.
Ben Hopkins (Baudette, Minn.) got things started for the men
as he took home top honors in the 100-meter dash (11.07) and
finished just .08 behind Dan Stoudt of Jamestown College to
claim second place (22.54).
The other three first place finishes came in the field events
as Steve Schreiber (Forest Lake, Minn.), Rodney Williams (Inglewood,
Calif.) and Justin Cox (Menahga, Minn.) each won in their
respective events.
Schreiber finished on top in the high jump, clearing 6-4 while
Williams jumped 6.65 meters in the long jump to win. Cox’s
win came in the shot put with his toss of 49-1.
Cox also had a seventh place finish in the discus throw (139-5).
Adam Wilson (Forest Lake, Minn.), R.J. Gross (Jamestown, N.D.)
and Todd Zeidler (Plentywood, Mont.) competed in the throwing
events with success. Wilson finished fourth place behind Cox
in the shot put with his toss of 48-2. Gross finished fifth
in the event (47-8). Wilson also grabbed a third place finish
in the hammer throw (159-4).
Zeidler competed in the javelin throw and finished second,
behind North Dakota’s Matt Fick, with his toss of 177-11.
On the track Zeidler took another second place finish in the
800-meter run with his time of 1:56.57.
Shannon Webster grabbed a second place finish for Bemidji
State as well. Webster’s second place finish came in
the 5000-meter run when he crossed the finish line with his
time of 16:56.97.
The woman’s squad got their best finish from Ashley
Spolarich (Maple Lake, Minn.) as she finished second in the
high jump with her leap of 5-6. On the season Spolarich is
tied for the best jump in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference with her jump of 5-8 1/2.
Spolarich also finished in fifth place in the triple jump,
jumping 10.17 meters.
Bemidji State will next complete in the NSIC championships
on May 6-7 hosted by Minnesota State University Moorhead in
Moorhead, Minn.
