BEMIDJI, Minn.- Senior Steve Schreiber (Forrest Lake,
Minn.) set a new Bemidji State record in the high jump clearing
6'10" to help propel the Beavers' varsity squad past
BSU alums in the annual Alumni Indoor Track and Field competition
held Saturday at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center.
On the women's side the varsity squad collected 207 points
in 12 events while the alumni mustered up 70 points.
The women's varsity squad totaled nine first-place finishes
including three running events and all six field events. On
the track junior Christa Pribula (East Grand Forks, Minn.)
captured first in the mile run while sophomore Shauna McInerney
(Rainy River, Ontario) claimed first in the 200-meter dash.
Martha Miltich, class of 2003, took the first in the 800-meter
dash with a time of 2:38.68 for the alumni, finishing ahead
of the rest of the pack by nearly four seconds. Miltich is
the current BSU record holder in the women's outdoor 10,000-meter
run (38:45).
The men's varsity squad also beat the alumni, 298-120, in
13 events. Alumnus Jason Carlson and Kenny Miller were the
lone first place finishers for the alumni. Carlson took first
in the long jump and Miller finished first in both the one-mile
run and the 800-meter dash.
Junior Ben Hopkins (Baudette, Minn.) finished first in the
55-meter dash and second in the 200-meter dash. In the throwing
events, sophomore Justin Cox out threw the rest of competition
by nearly two feet (48'4") in the shot put and teammate,
junior Adam Wilson, had a toss of (53' 1 1/2") in the
weight
throw to claim first by over five feet.
The Bemidji State Indoor Track and Field team1s will compete
next Friday and Saturday as they host the BSU Multi (Jan.
21) and the Super 8 Open (Jan. 22) at the Gillett Recreation
and Fitness Center.
