Junior Adam Wilson (Forest Lake, Minn.) set
new Bemidji State record in the weight throw with a toss of
53’8” on Saturday as BSU hosted its annual Super
8 Open at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center.
BSU women had two first place finishes on the afternoon as
sophomore Shanna Anderson (Crane Lake, Minn.)
captured the 55-meter dash (7.82) and freshman Ashley
Splolarich (Maple Lake, Minn.) cleared 5’41⁄4”
to defeat the rest of the competition.
Anderson inched out the win over fellow Beavers freshman BreAnna
Woinarowicz (Stephen, Minn.) and sophomore Shauna
McInerney (Rainy River, Ontario) who finished in
second and third with 7.87 and 7.88 respectively.
Combined the BSU women had 17 top five finishes in 14 events.
Along with Wilson’s record-breaking performance, the
men’s squad had strong finishes from junior Ben
Hopkins (Baudette, Minn.) who finished first in the
200-meter dash (22.62) and second in the 55-meter dash (6.57),
and sophomore Tommy Crummy (Argyle, Minn.)
who finished second in the pole vault (14’) and fifth
in the long jump (20’ 91⁄2”).
Wilson also finished fifth in the shot put behind teammates
sophomore Justin Cox (Menahga, Minn.) and
sophomore RJ Gross (Jamestown, N.D.) who
finished in third and fourth places.
In the final running event of the day, BSU’s men claimed
first and second place finishes, beating the rest of the field
by over five seconds in the 4x400-meter relay.
The men and women’s teams will next be in action as
they travel to Moorhead, Minn., for the Concordia Multi (Jan.
28) and the Concordia Duals (Jan. 29) on Friday and Saturday.
