ST. CLOUD, Minn. - [results]
- Junior Christa Pribula (East Grand Forks, Minn.) captured
her first win since the opening meet of the year for Bemidji
State as she crossed the finish line after 5:36.96 in the
one-mile run for the Beavers’ as they competed in the
Huskies’ Open in St. Cloud, Minn. Pribula also grabbed
a second place finish in the 1,000-meter run with a time of
3:13.54.
BSU got the events kicked of with a one-two finish in the
55-meter dash from sophomore Jonathon Hawks (Gainsville, Ga.)
and freshman Terrel Phelps (Lincolnton, Minn.) with 6.53 and
6.56 respectively. Along with his first place finish in the
55-meter dash, Hawks also captured a second place finish in
the 200-meter dash (22.90).
On the day Bemidji State’s men grabbed two other second
place finishes and three third place finishes. Sophomores
Matt Bischoff (Fergus Falls, Minn.) and Ozzey Williams (Toledo,
Ohio) claimed second in the 1,000-meter run (2:40.94) and
the 55-meter hurdles (7.89).
Finishing in third place on the track for the men was sophomore
James Winsor (Hopkins, Minn.) in the 500-meter dash (1:08.42)
and junior Torry Joubert (Port Arthur, Texas) in the 400-meter
dash (51.98).
In the men’s high jump, senior Travis Schwarz (Pine
City, Minn.) also grabbed a third place finish with his jump
of 6-2 1/2.
For the women, freshman Ashley Spolarich’s (Maple Lake,
Minn.) leap of 5-2 1/2 was good enough for a third place finish
in the high jump.
Bemidji State captured the top three spots in the men’s
shot put behind tosses of 51-4 from junior Adam Wilson (Forest
Lake, Minn.), 51 3/4 from sophomore RJ Gross (Jamestown, N.D.)
and a 50-6 1/4 heave from sophomore Justin Cox (Menahga, Minn.).
On the track for the women, sophomore Shanna Anderson (Crane
Lake, Minn.) had two fourth place finishes for BSU. Anderson
finished fourth in both the 200-meter dash (27.31) and the
400-meter dash (1:02.89).
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championships
get kicked off on Sunday in Aberdeen, South Dakota, as Spolarich
along with fellow freshmen Joe Bernau (Courtland, Minn.) and
Angela Miller (Grove City, Minn.) travel with seniors Ben
Mettling (Pine City, Minn.) and Rob Kucher (Brooklyn Park,
Minn.) to participate in the pentathlon and heptathlon. The
women will compete on Sunday while the men will stretch out
their competition between Sunday and Monday.
The rest of the BSU men’s and women’s track team
will have one more opportunity to fine tune themselves before
the NSIC indoor meet (Feb. 25-26) as the Beavers host their
annual Beaver Classic on Friday (Feb. 18) at the Gillett Recreation
and Fitness Center.
