BEMIDJI, Minn. - [results]
- Junior Adam Wilson (Forest Lake, Minn.) and freshman Ashley
Spolarich (Maple Lake, Minn.) each found themselves holding
new school records as the annual Beaver Classic came to a
close on Friday in the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center
on the campus of BSU.
Wilson bested his own mark set earlier this year of 58 feet,
8 inches with a toss of 54 feet to claim first place in the
weight throw. Along with topping the school record in the
throw, Wilson pulled out another first place finish in the
shot put (49-11 1/2).
In the women’s triple jump Spolarich finished in fourth
place with her record-breaking leap of 35-11. Spolarich’s
jump broke the old record of 35-6 1/4 set by Cristy Risberg
in 1994. Spolarich also added a second place finish in the
high jump with her 5-4 3/4.
Both the men’s and the women’s teams put forth
a strong effort, each capturing five top-three finishes on
the track.
For the women junior Christa Pribula (East Grand Forks, Minn.)
finished in first place fashion in the 800-meter run with
her time of 2:24.89 while sophomore Shanna Anderson (Crane
Lake, Minn.) and freshman BreAnne Woinarowicz (Stephen, Minn.)
had two top-three finishes each.
Anderson grabbed her two with a second place finish in the
200-meter dash (27.18) and another in the 600-meter run (1:45.85).
Woinarowicz finished second in the 55-meter dash with her
time of 7.76 and later finished third in the 200-meter dash
(27.58).
Freshman Angela Miller (Grove City, Minn.) was the only other
woman to grab a top-three finish with her third place finish
in the pole vault (10-1).
On the men’s side sophomore Jonathon Hawks (Gainsville,
Ga.) and junior Torry Joubert (Port Arthur, Texas) started
off with a two-three finish in finals of the 55-meter dash
with their times of 6.51 and 6.76 respectively.
In the 55-meter hurdles, sophomore Ozzey Williams (Toledo,
Ohio) captured the lone first place finish for the Bemidji
State men on the track with his time of 7.90.
Junior Tristan White (Portland, Ore.) also grabbed a top-three
finish for BSU with his second place finish in the 200-meter
dash (23.29) along with senior Pat Lais (Slayton, Minn.) who
finished third in the 1,000-meter run (2:39.36).
The men’s team performed exceptionally well in the field
events not only behind Wilson, but the combined efforts of
sophomores Justin Cox (Menahga, Minn.) and RJ Gross (Jamestown,
N.D.) who finished two-three behind Wilson in the shot put.
Cox also added a third place finish in the weight throw with
a toss of 43-3 1/4.
Elsewhere in the field events, senior Travis Schwarz placed
second in the high jump with his leap of 6-2 1/4.
