ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bemidji State men’s track
and field team has seen a lot of success from the trio of
junior Adam Wilson (Forest Lake, Minn.), sophomore R.J. Gross
(Jamestown, N.D.) and sophomore Justin Cox (Menahga, Minn.)
in the throwing events and nothing was different on Saturday
as the three combined for six top ten finishes at the Hamline
Invitation in St. Paul.
Cox grabbed three of the six top-ten finishes himself with
a second place finish in the discus (150-1), a seventh place
finish in the shot put (46-3 1/2) and a ninth place finish
in the hammer throw with his toss of 137 feet.
In his only top-ten finish, Gross just edged out Cox by half
an inch in the shot put with his throw of 46-4.
Wilson, who had a phenomenal indoor season for BSU, took
second place in the shot put throwing 49 3/4 and seventh in
the discus (138-3).
However, the trio of Wilson, Gross and Cox were not the only
members of the BSU men’s team to have success in the
throwing events on Saturday. Sophomore Todd Zeidler (Plentywood,
Mont.), a first year member of the team, threw the javelin
161 feet, 8 inches to grab third place just behind fellow
teammate, freshman Nick Hruska (Fairboult, Minn.) who finished
in second with his throw of 165-5.
Bemidji State also placed well in the other field events.
Sophomore Rodney Williams’ (Inglewood, Calif.) jump
of 21-10 1/4, in the long jump, was good enough to get the
BSU men’s team their only individual first place finish
of the weekend. Along with Williams, senior Steve Schreiber
(Forest Lake, Minn.) picked up a third place in the high jump
(6-6), and sophomore Tommy Crummy (Argyle, Minn.) finished
in a tie for fifth place in the pole vault, clearing 14-9.
On the track Bemidji State got its best finish from sophomore
James Winsor (Hopkins, Minn.) who finished second in the 400-meter
dash (49.57). Winsor was just .03 behind the first place finisher.
Sophomore Mike Hougen (Bemidji, Minn.) added a third place
finish in the 110-meter hurdles (15.77) and an eighth place
finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.10).
Junior Tyson Kuznia (Argyle, Minn.) also competed in the
110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles for BSU. Kuznia
grabbed a fourth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (59.13)
and a seventh place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (16.10).
Bemidji State is scheduled to next be in action on April
16 in both the Jim Duncan Invitation in Des Moines, Iowa,
and at the Al Cassell Relays in Jamestown, N.D.
