BEMIDJI, Minn. -
Just one week after breaking the school record in the shot put at the Northwest Open in Minneapolis, Minn., Remitz returned to the Gillett Recreation Fitness Center at Bemidji State to break his own record by over three feet with his toss of 55-4 at the Alumni Meet on Saturday.

In two meets as a member of the BSU track and field team, Remitz has broken the school record in the shot put twice. His mark of 55-4 is the best in the NSIC this season by nearly five feet over teammate Phillip McCollam (Sr.; Idaho Falls, Idaho).

The current team captured 17 first place finishes in the 23 events that were scored among both the men and the women.

Sophomore M’Kelle Tomberlin (Cohasset, Minn.) had another strong outing for BSU as she climbed atop the Norther Sun Intercollegiate Conference leader board with her leap of 17-2 3/4 in the long jump. Tomberlin also grabbed a first place finish in the 55-meter dash and a second place finish in the 200-meter dash. In the 200-meter dash, Tomberlin fell to Leah Grabil (Fr.; Bagley, Minn.) who finished just one one-hundreth of a second faster to claim first place.

In the sprints, senior Ben Hopkins (Baudette, Minn.) captured two first place finishes. In the 55-meter dash Hopkins edged out freshman Kyle Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) and in the 200-meter dash he beat Tristin White (Sr.; Portland, Ore.).

Overall the men’s team beat the alumni team by a score of 97-51 while the women edged out a team victory over the former Beaver athletes by a score of 191.66-146.83.

The Bemidji State track and field team will next be in action on Saturday as they host the annual Super 8 Open in the Gillett Recreation Fitness Center.
