BSU's Remitz becomes
just third All-American in school history

BOSTON, Mass. - Bemidji State University's Joe Remitz
recieved All-American honors on Saturday as he claimed sixth
place in the shot put at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track
and Field National Champions in Boston, Mass.
Remitz is just the third BSU indoor track and field athlete
to recieve All-American honors from the NCAA. Entering the
competition, Remitz ranked third in the nation but managed
to garner a sixth place finish with his best toss of 54 feet.
On Friday, BSU's Sheena Devine and Rodney Williams also competed
in the national championships. Devine finished ninth in the
shot put with a toss of 46-0 1/2. Entering the meet, Devine
ranked 11th in the nation among NCAA Division II athletes.
Williams competed in the men's long jump on Friday afternoon,
capturing 10th place with his leap of 22-10 1/2. Williams
was ranked ninth heading into the competition and dropped
one spot at the national meet.
"Each of our athletes performed very well this weekend,"
said head coach Craig Hougen. "This meets was packed
with excellent athletes. Several records were broken and even
shattered this weekend. I'm happy that our kids were right
there with them."
The meet brings the indoor track and field season to a close
for Bemidji State. The Beavers have already began practice
for the outdoor season which is slated to get underway in
early April.
