BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State Univesity indoor
track and field teams opened the 2007 indoor season Saturday
as they hosted the Super Eight Open at the Gillett Recreation-Fitness
Center. The Bemidji State thowers led the way for the Beavers
as they had at least one thrower finish in the top three in
all of the throwing events.
Justin Cox (Jr., Menahga, Minn.) and Joe Remitz (Jr., North
Branch, Minn.) finished in the top three in both of their
respective events. Cox picked up a second place finish in
the weight throw with a throw of 54-03.25, while Remitz finished
in a close third with a throw of 53-02.25. In the shot put
event Remitz and Cox took the top two spots with Remitz leading
the way with a throw of 53-07.75, and Cox picking up the second
spot with a throw of 53-03.00.
In the track events for the men, Bemidji State saw Kyle Nooker
(So., Green Bay, Wis.) garner second place in the 200 meter
dash finishing with a time of 23.39, just under three tenth’s
behind the top spot. Todd Zeidler (Sr., Plentywood, Mont.)
ran a personal best in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:23.35
which was good for third place.
Sheena Devine (Jr., Harris, Minn.) also collected points for
the Beavers, earning first place in two field events. She
took first in the weight throw making a distance of 50-07.25
and threw the shot put 47-03.75 to out measure her nearest
competitor of six feet. Bemidji State picked up a strong showing
from senior thrower Lindsey Bergeson (Trail, Minn.) as she
picked up second place in the shot put with a throw of 41-03.25.
The track events for the women saw Nicole Friend (International
Falls, Minn.) finish in third place in the 400 meter dash
with a time of 1:02.63.
Bemidji State teams will hit the road next weekend as they
will travel to Moorhead, Minn., on Jan. 26 to compete in the
Concordia Multi and then travel to Superior, Wis. on Jan.
27 when the Beavers will compete in the Superior Invite.
