ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference (NSIC) announced today that Bemidji State's Sheena
Devine (Jr., Harris, Minn.) has been named the league's
Field Athlete of the Week for her performances at the Northern
State Open on Saturday.
Devine not only captured first place in the shot put event
with a personal toss of 49-9 3/4 and out distanced any other
throw in the NCIS this season by nearly four feet, she currently
stands as the top-ranked shot putter in all of NCAA Division
II.
The junior also took first place in the weight throw with
a distance of 48-11 3/4.
The award is the fourth of Devine's collegiate career. She
follows Joe Remitz (Jr., North Branch, Minn.)
as the only other BSU track and field student-athlete to garner
the award in 2007.
She shares athlete of the week accolades with: Wayne State’s
(Neb.) Rachel Roebke (women's track), MSU Moorhead’s
Derik Bruggeri (men's track) and Jeremy VanVeen from Northern
State (men's field).
Devine and the rest of the Bemidji State track and field
teams will be back in action this weekend (Feb. 10) as they
travel to St. Cloud, Minn. for the Husky Open. A portion of
the team will then head on to Aberdeen, S.D. to compete in
the 2007 NSIC Indoor Championship Multi Events (Feb. 12-13).
