ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Bemidji State University junior
Joe Remits (North Branch, Minn.) out distanced
the longest weight throw mark in school history by over 19
inches en route to sweeping the throwing events, Saturday
at the Husky Open in St. Cloud, Minn. His mark of 58-6 3/4
seats him in 16th among NCAA's top Division II throwers in
the event.
Remitz also garnered top honor in the shot put stretching
the tape to 54-4 1/2 to win the event by more than four feet.
Taking first place for BSU in the running events were Todd
Zeidler (Sr., Plentywood, Mont.) and Matt
Bischof (Sr., Fergus Falls, Minn.). Zeidler finished
first in the 1,000 meters breaking the tape in a time of 2:37.89--a
mark that would place him third among his Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference counterparts. The senior also placed third in the
400-meeter dash clocking a time of 51.14.
Bischof claimed the top spot in the 3,000-meter run with
a time of 9:29.11. He also logged a 4:35.80 in the mile to
finish fourth.
Also standing out for the Beavers was two-sport student-athlete
Mychael Aker (Jr., Perham, Minn.). The red
shirt basketball player was a late addition to the track and
field team for the indoor season. At his first meet of the
2007, he took third in the long jump with a leap of 21-feet
and finished sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 42-00
3/4.
On the women's side off things, Sheena Devine (Jr.,
Harris, Minn.) captured the shot put title with a mark of
46-6 and was second in the weight throw of at 49-8 1/2.
On the track, Kristin Mittness (So., Morris,
Minn.) ran a rare 500-meter dash at took first with a time
of 1:29.93.
The Bemidji State track and field teams will be back in action
this weekend (Feb. 17) as they travel to Collegeville, Minn.
to compete in the St. John's Invitational.
