ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference announced recently that Bemidji State University's
Zac Preble (Fr., Coleraine, Minn.) and Todd
Zeidler (Sr., Plentywood, Mont.) have each been selected
as Athletes of the Week for their outstanding efforts during
the last week of competition.
Preble earned field honors after breaking the NSIC heptathlon
record scoring 4,780 at the 2007 NSIC Indoor Multi Events
in Aberdeen, S.D. Monday. His final score broke the old standard,
set by Northern State University's Jesse Heinz who scored
4,353 in the 2005 championship.
The freshman took home top honors winning three of the seven
events highlighted by clearing a personal-best 6-2 in the
high jump, recording the fastest time of his career in the
60-meter hurdles, 8.70, and out distancing the rest of the
field in the shot put by 12-feet, seven-inches at 47-10.
Zeidler, the league's track honoree, finished first in the
1,000 meters at the Husky Open in St. Cloud, Minn. Saturday
(Feb. 10) breaking the tape in a personal season-best time
of 2:37.89--a mark that would place him third among his NSIC
counterparts on the 2007 performance list. The senior also
placed third in the 400-meter dash clocking a time of 51.14.
The award is the first of its kind in both student-athletes'
collegiate careers an the third and fourth for the BSU track
and field teams. The duo follows Joe Remitz
(Jan. 31) and Sheena Devine (Feb. 7) who
have also garnered the honor in 2007.
The Bemidji State track and field teams will be back in action
this weekend (Feb. 17) as they travel to Collegeville, Minn.
for the St. John's Invitational.
