MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University track
and field teams took to the road for a rare mid-week contest
Tuesday as the men's and women's squads each sent a handful
of student-athletes to Moorhead, Minn. for Concordia College's
Cobber Twilight. BSU's throwers dominated the event taking
home three titles as Joe Remitz (Jr., North
Branch, Minn.) and Sheena Devine (Jr., Harris,
Minn.) continue to make their mark on the region.
The reigning Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women’s
Field Athlete of the Week, Devine extended her unbeaten streak
to 11 as she captured first place in the shot put stretching
the tape to a season-best 47-5 1/4. She also garnered fourth
place in the hammer throw with a toss of 145-10.
On the men's side of things, Remits not only won the shot
put with a toss of 55-11 3/4, he also added a hammer throw
title adding 17 feet to his season-best mark with a throw
of 167-9.
Finishing on the heels of Remits in both events was Menahga,
Minn. native Justin Cox. The senior posted
a 2007-best hammer throw distance of 161-10 also taking second
in the shot recording a throw of 49-9 3/4.
Jon Clemens (Jr., Princeton, Minn.) earned
the Beavers' fourth title clearing 6-4 for high jump honors.
On the track, Shelby Hougen (Jr., Bemidji,
Minn.) paced the BSU crew legging out a season-best 64.78
to take second in the 400-meter hurdles while she clocked
a third place time of 12.97 in the 100 meters.
Nicole Friend (Jr., International Falls,
Minn.) took third in the 400-meter with a time of 60.72. Friend
also recorded her best throw of 2007 in the javelin. Her mark
of 120-3 out distanced her previous best throw by nearly five
feet.
The Bemidji State men's and women's track and field teams
will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Fargo,
N.D. to participate in the Bison Classic hosted by NCAA Division
I North Dakota State University Saturday.
