June 7, 2007

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University two-time national champion shot put thrower Sheena Devine (Jr.,North Branch, Minn.) has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine / College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) College Division All-District V Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team, CoSIDA today announced.

Devine is fresh off one of the greatest individual track seasons in BSU history. The three-time All-American recently completed a 16-event shot put season, in which she was not defeated by a single NCAA Division II student-athlete. Along the way she set BSU and NSIC indoor and outdoor shot put records and collected a pair of national championships. She has now won two of BSU's 20 individual national championships and is one of only four Bemidji State student-athletes to claim two of more championships during a collegiate career.

in 2006-07 Devine was also a two-time Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week recipient and was presented as the 2007 Beaver Pride Female Athlete of the Year in early May.

With 20 student-athletes recognized between the District V first and second teams, Devine was one of three student-athletes honored that hail from Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference institutions. She is joined by a Minnesota State University Moorhead duo of Jessica Trautwein and Ashley Roemer.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams are selected by a vote of the 2,000-member CoSIDA. To be eligible, an athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Sports information directors nominate eligible athletes from their schools, who are then voted onto the all-district teams. First-Team All-District honorees advance to the All-America ballot. The program honors 816 student-athletes nation wide each year, and since the program’s inception in 1952 nearly 16,000 have been named to Academic All-America teams.

Devine is the second Bemidji State student-athlete to earn Academic All-District honors during this academic year. She follows Riley Weselowski (Jr., Pilot Mound, Manitoba) who garnered Second Team All-District V At-Large honors. In 2005-06 BSU had six student-athletes garner academic all-district honors while Phil McCollam advanced on to secure the Beavers' 12th Academic All-America award and the second of his career.

Bemidji State, located in Bemidji, Minn., is a member of NCAA Division II and participated in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
