The organization releases its list of national honorees July 5th.

May 25, 2007 - National Champion; Devine does it again
50thLogoBemidji State University junior Sheena Devine has done it again. The junior from North Branch, Minn. solidified herself as the best shot put thrower in the country today at Irwin Belk Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. She capped an undefeated NCAA Division II season with an outdoor national championship in the shot put. Teammate Joe Remitz (Jr., North Branch, Minn.) also garnered All-American honors placing sixth in the men's shot put.

May 24, 2007 - Hougen opens NCAA Championships with 14th place finish
50thLogoThe 2007 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships got underway today on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University and Bemidji State's Shelby Hougen (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) was in action competing for a spot in the 400-meter hurdle finals. Despite the junior finishing just a fraction of a second off of her own BSU-record pace, the nation's best Division II competition ran past her and into the finals.

The Bemidji State University men’s and women’s track and field teams completed the 2007 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday in Moorhead, Minn. Although the teams finished out of title contention, Sheena Devine, Justin Cox and Joe Remitz claimed event crowns. In addition, Remitz was selected as the NSIC Field Athlete of the Year while Zac Preble earned newcomer honors.

The BSU men's and women's track and field teams were in action Friday competing in the first day of the 2007 NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Moorhead, Minn. Day one brought with it three individual championships for the Beavers and the men (73) find themselves in the driver's seat heading into the final day of competition holding a 12-point lead over second place Wayne State College (61) while the women find themselves in fifth place of the team standings.

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference today announced its list of 2007 Honor Student-Athlete and Scholarship award winners. Bemidji State University's Sheena Devine (Jr., Harris, Minn.) and Todd Zeidler (Sr., Plentywood, Mont.) were among its list of recipients. The pair was recognized as 2006-07 NSIC Women's and Men’s Honor Student-Athletes respectively.

In the first meet of the 2007 outdoor track and field season, the Bemidji State University squads took advantage of beautiful weather conditions as Joe Remits (Jr., North Branch, Minn.) and Sheena Devine (Jr., Harris, Minn.), who each earned All-American status for their performances during the indoor season, won their respective shot put events bettering the 2007 provisional qualifying marks.

Apr. 13, 2007 - Preble provisionally qualifies in less than ideal conditions
Bemidji State University's Zac Preble (Fr., Coleraine, Minn.) wrapped up competition at the Papa John's D-II Challenge decathlon in second place in cold and wet conditions in Manhattan, Kan. Preble's 6,487 not only sets a new BSU outdoor record, he provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships in his first outing of the 2007 season. Apr. 4, 2007 - Outdoor season put on hold due weather

Bemidji State University head track and field coach Craig Hougen has announced that the season-opening outdoor track meet originally set for Hamline University April 6th has been cancelled due to heavy snow and an unfavorable forecast for Friday. Weather permitting, the team will get the 2007 outdoor campaign underway April 13th at the Gustie Open in St. Peter, Minn.

Mar. 10, 2007 - It's Devine! BSU thrower earns National Championship
With the weight of her national championship hopes on her shoulders and the four-kilogram shot put nuzzled between her check and right hand, BSU junior Sheen Devine (Harris, Minn.) heaved the implement 51-00.25 out distancing her nearest competitor by nearly six inches to claim the 2007 NCAA Indoor shot put crown. Teammate Joe Remitz (Jr., North Branch, Minn.) claimed fourth place in the men's shot gaining All-American honors for the second consecutive season.

The Bemidji State University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up the 2007 indoor season Saturday in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference indoor championships at BSU's own Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center. The Beaver men finished the two-day event in fourth place while the women took fifth.

Feb. 23, 2007 - Devine breaks NSIC record en route to NSIC shot put title
Bemidji State's Sheena Devine (Jr., Harris, Minn.) broke the NSIC shot put record completing her undefeated season in the event with a throw of 46-11.50 to lead the Beavers in day one of the 2007 NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships. After the first day of competition, the BSU men hold down the top spot in the team competition while the women are in fifth place.

50thLogoThe Bemidji State University men's track team got a jump start on the rest of the 2007 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships field Monday when three of its members finished in the top four in the heptathlon, the first team event of the championships at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen, S.D. BSU junior thrower Joe Remits out distanced the longest weight throw mark in school history by over 19 inches en route to sweeping the throwing events, Saturday at the Husky Open in St. Cloud, Minn. His mark of 58-6 3/4 seats him in 16th among NCAA Division II's top throwers in the event.

The 'Old Moldy Green' team captured victories on both the men's and women's side of things as the bulk of the current BSU teams were still away for the semester break.

The Bemidji State men's and women's track and field teams open the 2007 calendar year Saturday when they host the Fifth Annual BSU Alumni Meet at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center. The Bemidji State cross country team traveled to St. Paul, Minn. to compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship held at the Les Bolstad golf course. Seven teams competed in the meet, BSU ended the day in seventh place with a total score of 164. Wayne State came away with the team title with a score of 36.

Bemidji State traveled to Jamestown, N.D. to compete in the Jimmie Invitational which featured 5 schools. The meet was held at the Hillcrest Golf Course put on by Jamestown College. Bemidji State finished in fifth place with a team score of 106 and an average team time of 22:31 in the 5K race. The top team was a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponent in the Minnesota State University Moorhead who finished with a average team time of 21:09.

October 4, 2006 - BSU prepares for Jamestown Invitational and Homecoming run
The Bemidji State cross country team is back in action this weekend after having a week off from competition. BSU will travel to Jamestown, N.D. on Friday, Oct. 6 to compete in the Jamestown Invitational at 4:00 p.m. The Beavers will travel back to Bemidji on Friday evening to prepare for the Homecoming run on Saturday morning. The Homecoming run is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m.

September 23, 2006 - Bemidji State runs in Roy Griak Cross Invitational
Bemidji State traveled to Minneapolis to compete in the Roy Griak Invite which featured 29 NCAA Division II schools. The meet was held at the Les Bolstad Golf Course put on by the University of Minnesota. Bemidji State finished in twenty-eight place with a team score of 800 and an average team time of 27:16 in the 5K race. Bemidji State competed against Division II schools from all over the country. Black Hills State was at the top of the team chart finishing with a team score of 96 and an average team time of 23:33.

The Bemidji State cross country team traveled to Grand Forks, N.D. to open its season in the Ron Pynn Invatational held at the Ray Richards University golf course. Seven teams competed in the invitational, BSU ended the day in sixth place with a total score of 154. The University of North Dakota captured first place with a score of 33.

This weekend the Bemidji State cross country team will host to meets, the Maple Ridge Run and the Jack Pine Classic. The Maple Ridge Run will start at approximately 5:00 p.m. on September 8 and the Jack Pine Classic will start at approximately 9:00 a.m. on September 9.

September 1, 2006 - Outlook - Bemidji State excited about Cross Country Season

Despite the loss of its top runner from a year ago in Christa Pribula (East Grand Forks, Minn.) due to graduation the Bemidji State cross country team has a roster full of experienced runners. After a disappointing fifth place finish at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championships last season there are high expectations from ninth year coach Craig Hougen.

Bemidji State University men’s track and field student-athlete Phil McCollam (Idaho Falls, Idaho) has been named to the ESPN the Magazine / College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) College Division Academic All-America Second Team, CoSIDA today announced. The Idaho Falls, Idaho native becomes just the second student-athlete at BSU to make an appearance on the All-America two times during a collegiate career. In 2004, McCollam and earned Third-Team Academic All-America accolades.

April 20, 2006 - Beaver Harriers Receive Division II All-Academic Team Honors
The Bemidji State University women’s cross country team received accolades in the classroom recently. The NCAA Division II Cross Country Coaches Association awarded Bemidji State with All-Academic team honors for the 2005 season. This is the seventh year in a row that the Bemidji State women’s cross country team has garnered this award.
