BEMIDJI, Minn. - Kristi Buerkle (Fr., Forest Lake, Minn.) paced the Bemidji State University track and field teams Saturday as they opened the outdoor season at the Hamline Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. Buerkle took first place in both the 100- and 200-meter dash.
The freshman speedster posted a 12.90-econd 100-meter dash time and clocked a 25.83 in the 2200-meter dash.
In addition, Jeni Bauer (Fr., St. Catharines, Ontario) took first place in the javelin with a toss of 125-09. The thrower led a BSU sweep in event as Chelsea Geisler finished second with a 113-08 and Missy Kelsey stretched the tape to 101-11 to finish third.
All-American thrower Joe Remitz (North Branch, Minn.) led the way for the Beaver men recording a shot put title while finishing second in the discus and the hammer throw. Remits recorded a 58-09.5 in the shot while recording distances of 161-06 and 152-10 in the hammer throw and discus respectively.
