Dec. 1, 2004 - Smith Gains Academic All-American Status
Bemidji State University senior setter Kristin Smith (Caledonia, Ill.) has been selected to the ESPN the Magazine 2004 Academic All-America Third Team, as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She becomes the first BSU volleyball player to gain the award and the tenth student-athlete on record at BSU.

Nov. 11, 2004 - Beavers Suffer Season-Ending Loss to SW Minnesota
The Bemidji State University volleyball team suffered a season-ending 3-1 loss to Southwest Minnesota State University Thursday afternoon at the Gangelhoff Center on the campus of No. 1 seed Concordia University-St. Paul, eliminating the Beavers from the 2004 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament.

Nov. 8, 2004 - Haugen and Smith Honored by the League
Seniors Heather Haugen (Lanseboro, Minn.) and Kristin Smith (Rockford, Ill.) have been selected to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Honorable Mention team the league announced today. Haugen makes her third consecutive appearance as an all-conference selction while this marks the second such award for Smith.
Nov. 8, 2004 - Beavers Tabbed No. 7 for NSIC Tournament
The Bemidji State University volleyball team has been seeded No. 7 for the 2004 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament. The Beavers will face the No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State University Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Gangelhoff Center on the campus of Concordia University-St. Paul. The Winner of the mach will go on to play the winner of the No. 3 MSU-Moorhead / No. 6 Winona State University match in the semifinal round Friday.
Nov. 5, 2004 - Beavers Fall to Winona State, 3-0
The Bemidji State University volleyball team's offense was stymied Friday as the Beavers collected a meager 30 kills while hitting just .091 in a three-game loss (32-30, 30-19, 30-24) at Winona State University. Senior Heather Haugen led BSU with 11 kills.

Oct. 30, 2004 - BSU Battles Back in 3-1 Victory Over Northern State
After losing game one of the match, the Bemidji State University volleyball team battled back to gain victories in the next three games to defeat NSIC rival Northern State University 3-1 (27-30, 30-28, 30-21, 30-24) Saturday in Aberdeen, S.D. Senior Heather Haugen (Lanesboro, Minn.) posted a career-best 29 kills to pace a BSU offensive attack that played as well as it has all season as the team hit .232.

Oct. 29, 2004 - Beavers Fall to No. 15 MSU-Moorhead 3-2
For the second time this season the Bemidji State University volleyball team took nationally-ranked MSU-Moorhead to the fifth game before falling to the Dragons 3-2 (30-26, 31-33, 24-30, 15-12). Friday night the team battled back from a 1-0 deficit to hold a 2-1 lead and force the match to a fourth game. After dropping that game (30-25), the Beavers were defeated in the fifth and final game 15-12.

Oct. 26, 2004 - BSU Sweeps North Dakota in Grand Forks
In its final non-conference tilt of 2004, the Bemidji State University volleyball team (9-17; 2-8 NSIC) walked out of the Betty Engelstad Sports Complex with a 3-0 win over the University of North Dakota (8-16; 0-8 NCC). The sweep on the road marks the first since the team defeated the University of Wisconsin- Superior in straight games Sept. 28th. Senior Heather Haugen (Lanesboro, Minn.) paced the Beavers collecting 23 kills and 10 digs for her fourth double-double of the season.

The Bemidji State University volleyball team (8-16; 2-7 NSIC) gave Wayne State College (15-10; 6-3 NSIC) all it could handle for the first two games of the match, but the Wildcats would prevail completing the 3-0 sweep (34-32, 31-29, 30-20) Friday evening at the Bemidji High School Gymnasium.

Oct. 20, 2004 - Beavers Rally to 3-1 Win Over Upper Iowa
The Bemidji State University volleyball team scored eight of the final 10 points of game four, capped off by a pair of aces by senior defensive specialist Kristine Engman (Virginia, Minn.), to take the game (31-29) and the match (30-25, 28-30, 30-22, 31-29) over Upper Iowa University Wednesday night at the Bemidji High School Gymnasium. Senior outside hitter Heather Haugen (Lanesboro, Minn.) led the Beavers with 24 kills on the night while hitting at a .241 clip.

The Bemidji State University volleyball team (7-15; 2-6 NSIC) returns to Bemidji for its final homestand of the 2004 season this week. The Beavers are set to host Upper Iowa University (7-19) at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in a non-confernence battle while the team welcomes NSIC opponents, Wayne State College (14-10; 5-3 NSIC) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Southwest Minnesota State (15-5; 5-3 NSIC) for a 3:00 p.m. affair on Saturday. All three of the matches will take place at the Bemidji High School Gymnasium.

Oct. 16, 2004 - Haugen Posts 1,000th Kill in BSU Win
Senior outside hitter Heather Haugen (Lanesboro, Minn.) recorded her name in the annals of BSU volleyball history Saturday. With 19 kills in the 3-2 (30-27, 30-27, 18-30, 26-30, 15-6) win over Southwest Baptist University, she not only helped lead BSU to is first victory in eight matches, she also became the sixth student-athlete in the history of the BSU volleyball program to record her 1,000th kill.

The Bemidji State University volleyball team fell into sixth place in the Northern Sun intercollegiate Conference standings after a 3-0 (30-28, 30-18, 30-22) loss to the University of Minnesota-Crookston Tuesday night at the Bemidji High School Gymnasium. BSU's Heather Haugen led the team with a match-high 16 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double of the 2004 campaign, but it was not enough as UMC outhit the Beavers .205 to .141 to earn the sweep.

Oct. 12, 2004 - BSU Finds Spot in Regional Rankings
The Bemidji State University volleyball team received a No. 10 ranking in the most recent NCAA Division II North Central Regional Poll, announced Monday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). The ranking is thought to be the first for the Beavers since the team was selected to the No. 6 spot in the final regional poll of the 1999 season.

Oct. 11, 2004 - BSU Returns to Bemidji to Host UM-Crookston
The Bemidji State University volleyball team (6-13; 2-5 NSIC) returns to Bemidji after more than two weeks of playing on the road to host the University of Minnesota-Crookston (8-14, 2-5 NSIC) in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference battle. Just as any match versus an NSIC opponent, this week’s match is important, but with the Beavers tied with UMC for fifth place in the conference standings, there is added pressure.

Oct. 8, 2004 - BSU Ends Road Swing with Loss to South Dakota, 3-0
Freshman outside hitter Brittney Burns (Henderson, Minn.) led the Bemidji State University volleyball team in kills for the 11th time in 13 matches Friday afternoon collecting 13. She would also post a team-high .270 hitting percentage. But it would not be enough as BSU fell to the University of South Dakota in three games (30-24, 30-25, 30-21) in non-conference competition at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D.

St. Cloud State University hit .319 as a team and collected 49 kills in a three-game victory over the Bemidji State University volleyball team Wednesday at Hallenbeck Hall in St. Cloud, Minn. Freshman defensive specialist Alicia Beaman recorded a personal collegiate-high and 2004 team-best 28 digs at Lysaker Gymnasium Tuesday, but it is tough to win matches without an effective offense.
