Bemidji State University senior setter Kristin
Smith (Caledonia, Ill.) has been selected to the ESPN
the Magazine 2004 Academic All-America Third Team, as announced
today by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA). She becomes the first BSU volleyball player to gain
the award and the tenth student-athlete on record at BSU.

has been seeded No. 7 for the 2004 Northern Sun Intercollegiate

offense was stymied Friday as the Beavers collected a meager
30 kills while hitting just .091 in a three-game loss (32-30,
30-19, 30-24) at Winona State University. Senior Heather

State University volleyball team battled back to gain victories
in the next three games to defeat NSIC rival Northern State
University 3-1 (27-30, 30-28, 30-21, 30-24) Saturday in Aberdeen,
S.D. Senior Heather Haugen (Lanesboro, Minn.) posted a career-best
29 kills to pace a BSU offensive attack that played as well
as it has all season as the team hit .232.

For the second time this season the Bemidji
State University volleyball team took nationally-ranked MSU-Moorhead
to the fifth game before falling to the Dragons 3-2 (30-26,
31-33, 24-30, 15-12). Friday night the team battled back from
a 1-0 deficit to hold a 2-1 lead and force the match to a fourth
game. After dropping that game (30-25), the Beavers were defeated
in the fifth and final game 15-12.

walked out of the Betty Engelstad Sports Complex with a 3-0
win over the University of North Dakota (8-16; 0-8 NCC). The

University of Wisconsin- Superior in straight games Sept. 28th.

(14-10; 5-3 NSIC) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Southwest Minnesota

Senior outside hitter Heather Haugen (Lanesboro,
Minn.) recorded her name in the annals of BSU volleyball history
Saturday. With 19 kills in the 3-2 (30-27, 30-27, 18-30, 26-30,

the sixth student-athlete in the history of the BSU volleyball

North Central Regional Poll, announced Monday by the American
Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). The ranking is thought
to be the first for the Beavers since the team was selected
