BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University
volleyball team will begin preparation for the 2007 season
on Friday, Aug. 10 when first-year head coach Laurie Bitter
is expected to welcome 14 student-athletes for the first day
of fall camp.
Friday has been set aside for players to check into their
preseason housing, complete paperwork and meet as a team.
Saturday (Aug. 11) the Beavers officially get practice underway
as they will practice twice daily for the first week practicing
from 9-11:30 in the morning and 2-4:30 in the afternoon. The
practice marks the first of their 22-practice camp leading
up to their first game on Aug. 31 as the Beavers will play
Valley City State at 3:00 p.m. at the Cobber Invitational.
BSU will break camp on Aug. 25 and will begin its normal 2:00-4:00
p.m. practice schedule Aug. 27.
BSU enters fall practice with seven returning letterwinners.
Last season’s team finished 7-25 overall and 3-15 in
the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The 2007 roster
will include two seniors, three juniors, four sophomores and
five freshman.
BSU returns one player who earned postseason honors last season.
Senior outside hitter Brittney Burns (LeSueur, Minn.) was
named honorable mention All-NSIC. Burns is currently nine
kills shy (991) from reaching the 1,000 kill mark for her
career.
