Aug. 9, 2007

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University volleyball team will begin preparation for the 2007 season on Friday, Aug. 10 when first-year head coach Laurie Bitter is expected to welcome 14 student-athletes for the first day of fall camp.

Friday has been set aside for players to check into their preseason housing, complete paperwork and meet as a team. Saturday (Aug. 11) the Beavers officially get practice underway as they will practice twice daily for the first week practicing from 9-11:30 in the morning and 2-4:30 in the afternoon. The practice marks the first of their 22-practice camp leading up to their first game on Aug. 31 as the Beavers will play Valley City State at 3:00 p.m. at the Cobber Invitational.

BSU will break camp on Aug. 25 and will begin its normal 2:00-4:00 p.m. practice schedule Aug. 27.

BSU enters fall practice with seven returning letterwinners. Last season’s team finished 7-25 overall and 3-15 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The 2007 roster will include two seniors, three juniors, four sophomores and five freshman.

BSU returns one player who earned postseason honors last season. Senior outside hitter Brittney Burns (LeSueur, Minn.) was named honorable mention All-NSIC. Burns is currently nine kills shy (991) from reaching the 1,000 kill mark for her career.
