ST. PAUL, Minn. - For the first time this
season Bemidji State University’s sophomore outside
hitter Brie Groskreutz (Reedsburg, Wis.)
has been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive
Player of the Week for her performance in BSU’s weekend
matches versus the Northern State University Wolves and the
University of Mary.
In two matches last week, the sophomore recorded a total of
61 digs (6.78 d/g), three blocks (0.33 b/g), 11 kills (1.22
k/g), and two services aces. She set a career-high in digs
leading the team with 31 in a loss to Northern State University
and then followed that performance with a 30 dig afternoon
against the University of Mary.
Groskreutz is the first BSU player in history to record at
least 30 digs in back-to-back matches. She is averaging 5.23
d/g on the season and has accumulated 115 digs in six matches.
With the 31 dig performance she tied Allison Hyatt
for the second most digs in a match by a BSU player, Kristine
Engman sits atop the list with 36 digs in a match
against MSU Moorhead on Oct. 19, 2004.
Groskreutz is the first Bemidji State University volleyball
player to receive NSIC player of the week honors this season
and is the first player to garner the award since Nov. 1,
2004 when Heather Haugen received the honor.
