Bemidji State junior goaltender Emily Brookshaw (Webster, Wis.) posted the fourth shutout of her career, leading the Beavers to a 1-0 victory over the North Dakota Fighting Sioux this afternoon in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) contest. Dec. 12, 2006 - Brookshaw and Coach Paulsen to take part in USA Hockey Women’s Holiday Camp
Bemidji State's junior goaltender Emily Brookshaw (Webster, Wis.) is one of forty-two of the nation’s top women’s ice hockey players who will take part in the USA Hockey’s annual holiday camp from Dec. 26-Jan. 2 in Lake Placid, N.Y. She was one of five goaltenders that was choosen to participate in this camp. Sis Paulsen, Bemidji State’s assistant coach, will be part of a nine-member coaching staff that will be on hand as the athletes will be split into two teams for daily practices, strength training and scrimmages.

Bemidji State (2-2-0, 2-0-0 WHCA) completed the weekend series sweep on Saturday afternoon over the St. Cloud State Huskies (1-4-1, 0-4-0 WCHA) with a 4-2 victory. With the victory the Beavers improve to 2-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in WCHA play. This is the first time in Bemidji State’s eight year history that the Beavers have started 2-0 in WCHA competition and the 2-2 start is the best start since the 2001-02 season when the Beavers started 2-1-1 in its first four games.

Bemidji State will open up its regular season play this weekend as they will compete in the Easton Shootout, hosted by the University of Minnesota. BSU will open its season on Friday at 4:07 p.m. as they will play the number two team in the nation in the University of New Hampshire Wildcats. This will be the second time in three years that BSU will open its season against a ranked opponent. Bemidji State (0-0-0, 0-0-0 WHCA) and the University of Manitoba skated to a 3-3 overtime tie in a game that saw twenty-two penalties between the two teams. Bemidji State was able to out shoot Manitoba 34-to-16 in the contest but solid goaltending for Manitoba kept the Beavers from netting a game winning goal.

The Bemidji State women’s hockey team was picked to finish seventh in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Coaches Poll released by the league Wednesday. The Festival, to be held Aug. 15-22 in Lake Placid, N.Y., will serve as a tryout for a three-game Under 22 series against Canada in Ottawa, Ontario to be held Aug. 24-27. May 31, 2006 - BSU skaters earn academic awards
Four Bemidji State University ice hockey players have recently been recognized for their outstanding performances in the classroom with national academic honors. Men’s hockey defenseman Riley Weselowski (Pilot Mound, Manitoba) was named to the ESPN The Magazine / College Sports Information Directors of America All-District V At-Large Second-Team, while women’s hockey players Tara Hiscock (Bemidji, Minn.), Laura Lankton (Houghton, Mich.) and Millissa Smith (Elk River, Minn.) were named National Scholar Athletes by the American Women’s Hockey Coaches Association.

May 26, 2006 - Steve Sertich named head women's hockey coach
Bemidji State University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Rick Goeb today announced the hiring of Steve Sertich as the fourth head women’s ice hockey coach in the eight-year history of the BSU program.

Bemidji State University has announced its 2006-07 women’s ice hockey schedule. The 34-game slate features 16 home games and 18 contests on the road including games versus New Hampshire and Maine to open the campaign at the University of Minnesota's Easton Shootout.

May 10, 2006 - BSU announces head coaching finalists
Bemidji State University director of athletics Dr. Rick Goeb today announced that the pool of women’s hockey head coaching candidates has been narrowed and three finalists have been invited to Bemidji, Minn. for interviews this week (May 10-12). The three finalists included: Steve Sertich, head coach Roseville Area High School; Jeffrey Giesen, assistant coach St. Cloud State University; and David Lohrei, Director of Culver Military Academy summer ice hockey and skating program and ice arena management consultant.
