DULUTH , Minn. - Minnesota-Duluth scored four unanswered goals in the first and second period to sweep Bemidji State in the weekend series. Minnesota-Duluth scored twice on the man advantage to lift them to a 5-1 victory over Bemidji State in the series finale at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center (DECC).

Just as she did in Friday nights contest Michaela Lanzl scored the first goal of the game on the power-play at the 7:32 mark of the first. This was Lanzl’s 12th goal of the season for the Bulldogs. Sara O’Toole also scored for the Bulldogs in the opening frame as she picked up her thrid goal of the season at 11:35 of the first. O’Toole’s goal would eventually be the game winner for the Bulldogs and lifted UMD to a 2-0 lead at the end of one period of play.

In the second period of play the Bulldogs Juliane Jubinville would score twice to put the Bulldogs up 4-0. Jubinville capitalized on the power-play at the 16:56 mark of the second period recording just her second goal of the season. Just two-minutes and twenty-four seconds later Jubinville would net her second goal of the game and her third of the season to give the Bulldogs the comfortable 4-0 lead going into the second intermission.

In the third period freshman Allison Johanson (Flagstaff, Ariz) would break the unanswered scoring streak put up by the Bulldogs as she would record her second goal of the season to bring the Beavers with-in 4-1. Assisting on Johanson’s goal was Jessica Pullar (Elk River, Minn.) and Brooke Collins (Pilot Mound, Manitoba). That would be all the scoring the Beavers would be able to produce as Krista McArthur would score her third goal of the season with just two-minutes left in the game.

Sophomore goaltender Emily Brookshaw (Webster, Wis.) took the loss for Bemidji State, falling to 0-4-1 on the season and suffering her fourth lose in four starts. She allowed all five Minnesota-Duluth goals, marking a season high for goals allowed in a game. Brookshaw had a career high in saves on the afternoon with 45.

Riitta Schaublin saved all 16 shots she faced in the first and second period. In the third period back up goaltender Danielle Cialetta came in and recorded nine saves giving up the lone goal for the Beavers. Schaublin recorded the win and improved her record to 9-2-0 on the season.

Bemidji State let up 50 shots on goal to the Bulldogs. The Beavers have not given up 50 shots on goal since December 5, 2003 at Minnesota.

The loss gives the Beavers a record of 0-25-1 all-time versus the Bulldogs and gives the Beavers a fifteen game losing streak dating back to February 3, 2002 when the two teams skated to a 2-2 overtime tie. The Beavers are 0-13-1 at the DECC.

BSU went 0-for-5 on the power play, while Minnesota-Duluth went 2-for-6.

The loss dropped Bemidji State to 2-8-2 overall and 1-7-0 in WCHA play, while UMD improved to 10-2-0 overall and 10-2-0 in WCHA play.

Bemidji State will next be in action on November 25-26 as the Beavers will host The Ohio State Buckeyes at the John Glas Fieldhouse. On November 25th the game is slated to start at 7:07 p.m. and on the November 26th the puck is scheduled to drop at 2:07 p.m.
