Women’s Ice Hockey
St. Cloud, Minn. - Bemidji State (1-3-1, 0-3-0) suffered
its third straight loss as they lost the first game of a weekend
series to the St. Cloud State Huskies (1-4-0, 1-4-0) 6-2 on
Friday afternoon.
St. Cloud State scored three first period goals that gave
them a 3-1 lead at the end of one period of play. Laura
Fast recorded her second goal of the season just
1:24 into the game to give the Huskies the early 1-0 lead.
Just two-minutes and thirty-four seconds later the Huskies
would strike again as Kelly Stewart recorded
her first goal of the season to go ahead 2-0.
Bemidji State got on the board at the 5:22 mark of the first
period as junior Kelly Hart (Ajax, Ontario)
netted her first goal of the season for the Beavers. Assisting
on the goal was senior Carly Napier (Toronto,
Ontario). Hart has recorded 10 points in the last nine games
she has played against the Huskies. St. Cloud would answer
back at the middle of the first period when Amy Currier
put St. Cloud
back up by two on her first goal of the season.
The score remained 3-1 in favor of the Huskies until late
in the second period when sophomore Jessica Pullar
(Elk River, Minn.) scored her second goal of the season. This
also give Pullar the team lead in power play goals on the
season with 2. Sophomore Haley Balcom (Elk
River, Minn.) and freshman Allison Johanson
(Flagstaff, Ariz.) assisted on the goal.
At the end of the second period BSU trailed by one 3-2.
St. Cloud State’s Denelle Maguet would
seal the deal for the Huskies as she recorded her third point
of the game (1g, 2a) with a goal at the 9:37 mark of the third
period. The Huskies tacked on two empty net goals at the end
of the game to give them the 6-2 victory.
Bemidji State’s goalie Emily Brookshaw
(Webster, Wis.) allowed four goals in the loss while recording
21 saves. Brookshaw saw her record fall to 0-2-1 on the season.
Bemidji State is now 1-3-1 in the last five meetings versus
the Huskies. The Huskies snapped their four game losing streak
with a win over the Beavers this afternoon. BSU will try and
stop a three game skid tomorrow afternoon, and will look to
pick up their first conference victory.
The Beavers and Huskies will be back in action tomorrow afternoon
at the National Hockey Center to finish off the weekend series.
The puck will drop at 2:07 p.m.
