UMD ends BSU’s six game unbeaten streak, 5-0
Four Bulldogs record two points in shutout

- Minnesota Duluth rode a outstanding performance from goaltender Riitta Schaublin as she recorded 26 saves in the Bulldogs 5-0 shutout win over the Beavers. Karine Demeule, Jessica Koizumi, Saara Tuominen and Michaela Lanzl all recorded two points each in the win for the Bulldogs. With the 5-0 loss the Beavers saw it’s unbeaten streak ended at six games.

It took Minnesota Duluth just 3:27 seconds into the contest to record the game’s first goal. Karine Demeule would record her ninth goal of the season to put the Bulldogs up 1-0, with helpers from Jessica Koizumi and Saara Tuominen.

Jackie Robertson was called for interference at 5:02 of the period to give the Bulldogs it’s first power-play opportunity of the night. Demeule and the Bulldogs would take advantage of the power-play opportunity just 1:08 into the man-advantage. Jaime Rasmussen fired a shot towards the Bemidji State net and Demeule would tip the puck past Bemidji State goaltender Emily Brookshaw (Webster, Wis.) for her second goal of the period to push the Bulldogs lead to 2-0.

The score stayed at 2-0 until 17:27 of the second period when the Bulldogs got a two on one break away opportunity. Noemie Marin skated the puck into the BSU zone and made a nice pass to Michaela Lanzl who burried the puck into an open Bemidji State net. This was Lanzl’s sixth goal of the season for the Bulldogs. Marin and Ashly Waggoner picked up the helpers on Minnesota Duluth’s third goal of the night.
With just :28 seconds left in the second period the Bulldogs pushed it’s lead to 4-0 when Emmanuelle Blais netted her sixth goal of the season on a break away goal. Michaela Lanzl picked up the lone assist on the Bulldog goal.

At the end of two periods Minnesota Duluth held a 4-0 lead over Bemidji State. Through two periods of play the Bulldogs held a 23-14 shot advantage over the Beavers.

The Bulldogs extended its lead to 5-0 at 9:12 of the third period. Jessica Koizumi took a pass from Saara Tuominen and fired a shot the deflected off Brookshaw’s glove and trickled into the net. This was

Koizumi’s 15th goal of the season for the Bulldogs. Koizumi’s goa chased Bemidji State goaltender Emily Brookshaw from the game and Brookshaw was replaced by Jessica Ptachick in net at 10:48 of the third period. This was just the second apperance in net for Ptachick this season.

Emily Brookshaw picked up the loss for the Beavers stopping 23 of 28 shots faced in 49:12 of work dropping her to 9-12-3 on the season. Jessica Ptachick stopped all three shots she faced in 10:48 of work in her relief appearance. Ptachick has not allowed a goal in 70:48 minutes played this season stopping all 23 shots she has faced.

Riitta Schaublin stopped 26-of-26 shots faced in 60:00 of work to pick up the 5-0 shutout, improving her record to 8-3-2 on the season.

The game featured eight minor penalties, five against Minnesota Duluth and three against BSU. The Bulldogs went 1-for-3 on the power play, scoring on Demeule’s first period marker, while the Beavers went 0-for-5 with the man-advantage.

The loss dropped 0-32-1 in 33 all-time meetings with Minnesota Duluth and 0-16-0 all-time in Bemidji.

Bemidji State (10-12-3, 8-9-2 WCHA) and Minnesota Duluth (14-7-2, 13-5-1 WCHA) wrap up their two-game conference series tomorrow afternoon in Bemidji, Minn. Opening faceoff from the John S. Glas Fieldhouse is slated for 2:07 p.m. Central time.
