GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. - The Bemidji State women’s hockey team was unable to sweep their first series of the season, falling to Robert Morris 1-0 Saturday night in the first-ever home game played at IRA Civic Center in Grand Rapids.

BSU goaltender Emily Brookshaw (Webster, Wisc.) had another stellar game in net for the Beavers, saving 24-of-25 shots faced. She held off the Colonial charge as long as she could, but too many penalties proved to be the deciding factor.

Bemidji State had six penalties to RMU’s two, which included one costly five-minute game misconduct penalty. Haley Balcom (Sr., Elk River, Minn.) was whistled for checking from behind, and those five short-handed minutes were all Robert Morris needed to notch the game-winning goal.

Mallory Giambra took a pass from Kylie Rossler and was able to sneak the puck past Brookshaw for the lone goal of the game. The goal came 12:44 into the second period, and was the third goal of the season for Giambra.

This was the second-straight night RMU was able to score at least one power-play goal. The Colonials scored two in Friday’s game, and all three goals scored in the series were scored on the power play.

Brookshaw was narrowly outdueled by RMU freshman goaltender Daneca Butterfield (2-0-0), who fended off all 27 Beaver shots on net.

This was the second game of the season that BSU outshot its opponent. The Beavers were 0-for-2 on the power play and the Colonials went 1-for-6 on the man advantage.

Bemidji State will look to build off its first non-losing series of the season, and will take that momentum into a second-consecutive home series, this time against the University of Wisconsin Nov. 23-24. Game times are set for 7:07 p.m. and 2:07 p.m., respectively.
